Default 05 internals in 06 + diff case

HI:
Can the internal parts of a 05 be used in a 06 + diff case? This is actually a 05 vette with 3.15 gears and a A4 tranny. I have read a few threads in the forum about the weakness of the 05 diff case. can this done? Iknow that RPM and DTE and other companies sell diffs for the 05 but they are all over $2,500 and I do not have have that kind of money right now. I have read that the a6 which come with 06+ vettes has a main output shaft of 30 splines and the a4 is 27 thats why I am asking if the internals in a 05 will fit in a 06 + diff case. I also read that the side covers of the 06 + diff case are different can they be replaced by my 05s. I also know that I would need a diff case from m6 because it is high carrier like mine and all a6 vette come with 2.76 which are low carrier.Guys i am trying to build a stronger diff on a budget .The vette has lts headers, ud pulley and a vararam sc1 CAI. Please help me out

do a search on here for the C5 swap into a C6. fairly easy to do, need to fabricate a plate at the rear of the cradle. there is someone here on the forum that has a DIY with pics. lots cheaper to do................

Yes, I believe they can be, if it's out of a manual car at least.
I only say this because I've seen an automatic 2005 ring, pinion and differential installed in a carrier out of a manual 2008/2009.
Might require a special adaptor to mate up to your trans as well though.

It can be done because RPM offers it as an option on their website.

They charge 600 last time I checked. I would call them and get a definitive answer as they are as expert as you can be on diffs. I imagine a good part of that cost is the 2006+ case itself.

I bought the whole unit and adapter from RPM and went from 2.73's to 3.42's with a 2005 A4 using the 06+ case. It wasn't necessarily cheap, but it can be done.

Default adapter

Thanks for the info. But why is the adaptor necesary? I know c5 are the same in either manual or auto trannys, I am referring to diffs. I read that the diff from manual T-56 06+ can be connected to a manual a T-56 from 05 without using any adapter. Is this true?. Just trying to save $600.00 0n the adaptor.

That may be true but that's a manual to manual situation...you're looking to do fit a later rear to an '05 automatic and as far as I know only the later manual cases (along with said adaptor) will work with that.

The manual transmission requires changing the tail housing on the transmission to make the 06+ differential work. The bolt pattern on the 06+ differential is different. That is why the A4 with 06+ diff requires the adapter plate. We sell the billet adapter plates for $550. A C5 diff will bolt directly to the back of an 05 A4 transmission.
