Went to replace the differential fluid and found oil covering most of the leaf spring and on the underside of the differential case. The oil on the leaf spring looked darker in color (possibly because of the spring's color or dirt that the oil may have collected) but the oil on the differential cover was lighter in color.
As I looked for the cause of the leak, it seemed as though the leak may be coming from the passenger side CV boot (also known as the axle seal?). Interestingly, the driver's side boot seemed moist as well. I took some pics of the boot, leaf spring and differential cover.
Any thoughts? Think this would be covered under the 5 year power-train warranty or the GMPP?
By looking at your pictures it looks like your axle seals are leaking a little. No idea if this is covered, but changing them is not that hard to do.
FYI, CV boots are whats on the other side of the CV joint holding in the grease for the joint where it connects to the CV shaft. The axle seal seals the CV joint where it enters the diff to keep the diff fluid from leaking out and dirt and debris from getting in.
Powertrain warranty will cover that. GMPP will cover it as well if your warranty has expired. Nice thing about GMPP is if it isn't stated in the list of things not covered its covered.
