Default Leaf spring question.

We are trying to create some space so that we can get to the drain plug for the diff.

If we were to unscrew the highlighted mounts, would the leaf spring drop a bit so that we would have more room? Would it be difficult to get the mounts back on?

If the wheels are hanging and there is a gap between the height adjustment bolts and the spring will move down.

The spring will not drop down if you remove the mounts, even with the wheels hanging down.

What year C6? (I can't tell from the pic) I believe the '05s were harder to get to the drain plug....? I have an '07 and I've changed my diff fluid a few times. I just use a long ratchet with swivel attachment. Works fine once you figure out how to snake it in there. Never had to loosen or remove anything.

You need to fully fill out your profile so we know the deatails about your car. The 05 model is harder to reach but if you do a saearch you will find a writeup on diff oil change which should help. Check this:

Remove the four bolts that the yellow arrows are pointing to:

Once you do that, using a floor jack you'll be able to raise up the differential, transmission and torque tube all at the same time and get enough clearance to access the drain plug. I usually put a hockey puck on my jack and lift it from the rear of the torque tube.

Hope that helps,
Christopher

I don't remember it being this complex. I changed dif and trans a couple weeks ago for a forum member we did not have to do any gymnastics to drain the fluid. It was a 2006.

there is no need to do all of that. Check the link I provided above. It shows how to access the 05 drain plug and there are pictures.

Those are the bolts that I remove when I do my 20,000 miles trans & diff service.

The differential case design was changed from 06 on. The drain plug in the 05 lies directly above the spring member which makes access difficult.
