Default broken timing chain on LS2

I broke the timing chain on my 05 this morning under accellaration. I am looking for advice on Chain set, cam ... Is a gear to gear timing set available ( I love the sound ) I am running 1 7/8 headers, uncatted Z06 exhaust, ported fast & ported t-body, Varaam & 25% underdrive pulley (i believe this is the cause of the failure)

any suggestions or links would be appreciated.

What brand of underdrive pulley? There have been a few timing chains that have broke while using a certain brand of UP's.

Katech C5R chain appears to be the best.

When you have all of your work done, take a look at installing an ATI underdrive pulley.

I just installed the C5R timing chain to avoid the problem you have encountered. If you are going with a cam that has a higher lift than the OEM cam I would replace the lifters, add hardened push rods and dual valve springs.

I don't know exactly when it appended, but GM changed to a stronger chain when the went from LS1 to LS2. Since you have an 05, maybe it came with the lighter chain and new stock LS2/3 chain will be fine.

Just a guess.

thanks, i am thinking of doing the katech c5r, seems very popular and haven't heard about any fitment issues as in double rollers, with a new cam kit.

thanks

You are probably going to need valves too from the piston contact when the chain broke. Since you have to pull it apart anyway, here is the direction I went with my 06....wanst that expensive and the performance difference from the bolt on LS2 was nothing short of phenomenal:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...cam-specs.html

When I did it, these were the part numbers and cost...it actually cost me much less as I sold all takes offs and did my own labor, so in the end it cost me about $700.00 total.

2 - L92 Heads Part # 012582714 $379.90
8 - Offset Rocker Arms for L92 Part # 012569167 - $94.72
8 - Manley 2.165" L92 Intake Valves # MAN11620 - $111.92
8 - Manley 1.590" L92 exhaust valves# MAN11621 - $111.92
2 - Rocker Pedestals for L92 Part # 012600936 - $31.04
1 - ARP Bolt Set Part # ARP1343610 - $98.95
1 - L76 Bare Manifold # 012590124 - $224.75
1 - Patriot Extreme Gold Spring Set - $279.50
1 - GM Crank Seal # 012585673 - $18.36
1 - IWin Heavy Duty Rollermaster Chain #SD3SR602 $42.35

From ByunSpeed
1 - Powerbond Underdrive Pulley, Belt, Bolt Kit - $200

From CompCams
1- Comp Cam 228/232 114+2 LSA - $404.00

Total of $1997.41

Here's two 05s that I know of, and Ive never seen anyone break a chain that didnt destroy valves as well:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-purchase.html

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-t...now-c-o-w.html

After a chain failure, you'd have to pull everything apart just to be safe and sure. Either way, whether you got lucky or not, if it were me, I would take the opportunity to turn a negative experience into a positive one and rebuild with better parts to make her faster as well...but that's just me and I'll never claim to be the brightest bulb in the lamp

No matter what, best of luck, we'll hope for the best and hopefully you'll be back on the road soon.

The small gain in power isn't worth the risk IMHO.
