Default MN Transmission question....

Is it possible to just replace the 1st and 2nd gear synchros and are these a known weak point? I get a little snick and grind on downshifts unless I purposely "drive around the problem." Hooking first stationary is a bit messy as well unless I just nudge it towards second before engaging first.

I want to be able to ****** second on decelerating rather than having to carefully place it in at just the right moment.

Anyone know anywhere in the Vegas area that would do this kind of work if presented with just the Tranny and parts? I am more than capable of getting the box out myself but stripping it down is a little daunting!

If you are grinding in 1st and 2nd gears, you should replace those gears as well. The 1-2 synchro shares 1st and 2nd gears and when they grind, it's the synchro grinding against the corresponding engagement gear.

If you provide the trans and parts, I'll be willing to install the parts for you.

That's very kind of you! How many hours would it take someone knowledgeable to replace the gears and synchros?

How much can I expect to pay for the parts?

What would you want for your time?

Many thanks.
