I recently bought my first Corvette, it is a pre-owned 2008 base model with the Z51 package. I noticed that if I touch the part of the manual gearshift, just below the **** (by the metal ring which secures the **** to the stick and leather boot) that if feels hot, I also feel some heat in the center console. I know that the car chassis is low, and I am sitting right on top of the engine/transmission, but is this normal or should I bring it to the dealership to see if something is wrong.
I actually put some Aluminum AC duct tape on my stock tunnel plate the last time I dropped the drivetrain and it seemed to make a difference. A roll costs about $10. It may be worth the effort since it's significantly cheaper than an aftermarket tunnel plate.
The Tunnel Plate w/Thermal abs from Elite Enginneering & the insulation kit from Crazy Cowboy were 2 of the best mods for my C6. Got rid of the heat & some of the drone from my Flowmaster exhaust. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-p...tic-vette.html
Good Luck.
You can significantly reduce cabin heat and some road noise by installing some thin insulation on the floor and tunnel.
Heres what I did. I used some thin heat duct insulation called FROST KING and some foil covered bubble wrap called REFLECTEX (SP?). It made a big difference!
The insulated tunnel plate also helps some. I have the entire drive train out for some work and I plan on installing the frost king on the inside of the tunnel before i reinstall the drive train!
