My point was that the oil caught is no more contaminated than all the rest of the oil in the engine. The system doesn't separate bad oil from good oil unless you consider that the oil first caught after an oil change is less contaminated than any subsequent catch as the entire oil fill progressively degrades.
I knew where the oil went, but was joking. I suspect the carbon in your engine was more the result of the gas you use and your driving habits. I pulled my heads at 71K and had almost no buildup and had not used a catch can.
I based my comment on not using the oil from the catch can from an earlier post I'd read from Tracey Lewis about that oil mist containing a lot of combustion byproducts and being very acidic. I don't have his post handy but it was a three page post on the PCV system, you may have seen it. Tracy is the man when it comes to PCV questions.
Tom I use my car as hard as anybody, as you know. I put the catch can on about three years ago after I took off my FAST and could literally pour oil out of it. When I took it off the other day, no oil ran out. I didn't see much in there either, though it wasn't bone dry.
Check out the carbon on my pistons. I was surprised to see it. The picture is not the best, but it was similar to Taken19 above.
