I got an anniversary coming up and I'm thinking maybe buy my wife a G-Tech Pro RR for a present.
Can anyone tell me if these things are worthwhile at the track?
Hey perhaps instead I'll get her one of those vacuum cleaners that you can strap onto your back. Be nice to make her life easier.
Thanx for the reply, although I may reconsider it as a choice of anniversary gift.
Also as far as the vacuum is concerned, my wife is already a very good housekeeper.
No doubt that if we get divorsed, she's keeping the house!
I have used gtech's for years and I'm very 50/50 on them. I recently bought the new GTECH RR Pro Fanatic which now uses high speed GPS. I like the mapping features, lap times, sector times, and all the functions that it offers. The big downside I feel with the thing is the screen isn't bright enough to see clearly while on the track and the mount SUCKS. The mounting system for the gtech has to be my biggest complaint with this company. They notoriously fail and using that little ball mounting system with the new one is terrible. Under G loads, the thing flops all over no matter how tight you make it.
The new GTECH, while gaining some cool new features, also lost a lot of cool features. The older silver/orange GTECH RR did some cool threshold indication with the LED's and also acted as a nice peripheral shift light (if you could get a tach signal). Due to newer vehicles electronics and ignitions, the cig lighter situation for rpm is gone.
The new unit can help you on the track and overall is pretty effective for the money. You really need to look into a new mounting system though. The new one is shown below, which is the GPS one. The new one also has a much more effective hp calculation system that seems much more accurate, but I still wouldn't take any hp numbers these things kick out to heart. The use of the GPS with accurate input of vehicle weight though, makes it a MUCH more accurate system than the old one. The numbers are much more believable than they used to be. 1/4 mile stuff is dead nuts, as is lap times and what not. The new one is pretty cool...but like I said, be prepared to be really aggravated with the mount.
I wouldn't recommend either a gtech or a vacuum cleaner for an anniversary gift..
Buy either for yourself (and the gtech is pretty consistant at the track from my past experience years back) still I wouldn't recommend you buy it for the wife..
Of course I don't know your wife so I wish you the best ..
