But as I understood the OP, he wanted to bring his stock car in for some baseline runs, he didn't say anything about tuning.

If he wants the strongest baseline.....that needs to come on a cold, dry winter day.
The OP is me.

Yes, i want to start stock to see what the baseline is. I want to make sure I give the stock car the best oppurtunity to make power.

Once we are done with the base line, we will be tuning. I was curious as to how the spark table corrections are made.

Thanks

With HP Tuners all you have to do is put whatever numbers you want in the tables.

The key is knowing what numbers will make the car have more power, and more importantly, what numbers will blow the car up! A decimal point error on one particular table may blow it up...i.e. if you command 130.0 afr va 13.0.

Now that being said, learning to tune isn't frankly all that hard. HP Tuners is amazingly robust and user friendly compared to the old days of burning chips and lt1edit. And, the car tells you what it wants if you listen to it via the scanner that comes with HP Tuners. I really enjoy scanning and tuning my car.

All you're doing is adjusting jets and distributor springs...but you don't have to get your hands dirty! Oh and you don't need to read the plugs, the car tells you on your screen what it's wanting.

I have a little tuning experience with a FAST XFI stand alone system. Is HP tuners similar?

If my memory serves, it has similar tables as HP tuners...so I'd say yes.

Check out the HP tuners forum. It has getting started stickies and great folks who will help you. You will also see a bunch of familiar names!

Joe, I need to spend a weekend with you and have you teach me all the misc stuff you know regarding vettes. Everytime I see a thread that you've chimed in on, I learn something new. How does this Saturday work for you?

LOL thanks for the compliement....but there are many many more qualified people than me! I'm a cpa for pete's sake (though I did play a mechanic in college).

I have learned a TON from this forum and I'm blessed with a decent memory, so it's always my pleasure to be able to add a little or at least refer someone to a more knowledgeable member.

The power of this forum and the Corvette community is amazing.

But watch for cold fronts in the winter....Ranger lives in FL now....last winter we had Ranger down to PBIR and 4 members reached new PB's. And if you can get a little time from Jeremy Preston (which he freely gives) you likely won't talk to a more experienced Corvette drag racer. He's been doing it since 15!

Cool days are a lot of fun at PBIR in December/January. There are always a ton of Vettes there and we mostly know each other. A great time.

Looking forward to making the trek across the state when the stars align this winter--I should have my headers/cam/tune done and can't wait to meet up with fellow enthusiasts to learn all that I can. I should buy a voice recorder for that matter. And regarding CPA-talk, my wife and I both work for PricewaterhouseCoopers and are in the tax practice here in Tampa.

Be sure to let me know when you guys are planning a trip to PBIR and I'll make arrangements.

OP-sorry for the hijack, back to our regularly scheduled programming
