Today I did an HPDE at Texas World Speedway with not much success. I ran Goodyear GT's in stock sizes up front and 305/30/19 Toyo R888's in back with no TPMS sensors. Not sure if it was because the Toyos are not the stock size or because of R-compounds on the back and not the front but Active Handling was killing me. It was being abnormally aggressive and I could not turn it off for the life of me. I got it to turn off once in the pits but then when I staged it would not turn off again, it would just go from traction control on to traction control off, no "competitive driving", no "AH and TC off". I got home and read in the owners manual that if there are problems with the TPMS that it will not let you turn off AH. Not sure if this is '05 specific. I used to think that without TPMS sensors it would just bark at you and there were no other adverse effects but not so. Between the AH fighting me, the severe understeer, pushing and scrubbing caused by the mismatched tires, and shredding a belt to cut the day short it was fairly frustrating. Just wanted to share the bit about the tie in of AH and TPMS.
No TPMS= No Comp mode or ability to turn off TC & AH
Pretty common!
There've been a ton of post about this one. I along with a couple of others have posted workarounds so do some searching on the topic and you may find something that works for you.
The one I've heard is to put the sensors in a PVC pipe @ 30# but I would rather spring for some more sensors and a TPMS tool and re-learn when I swap wheels/tires. I was also thinking about whether I could just pull the TC or AH or ABS fuse, if there was one.

NOPE.. if you pull the fuse the brakes work funny, if you get more sensors and re learn it works fine , but if you air down under 24lbs car will go into limp mode, that's why i have used a canister for over 5 years
Thats pretty neat. My guess is I happened upon that procedure in the pits which is why it worked for me then but then could not replicate it in the staging lanes. I still have the Toyos on the car, I just want to wear them out as I don't plan on getting R-compound fron tires for the track, so I'll give this a shot.
I think long term though I'll end up getting a couple sensors for my extra set of rear wheels and a TPMS reset too.

Weird, I've never seen ill effects when aired down at the 1/4 mile track. It just barks at me about the low pressure but no other effects. Granted I don't try turning AH off at the 1/4 mile, just TC. Again, could be bastard child '05 specific.

I have no TPMS in my drag race wheel/tire set up and that's what happens to me as well when I'm at the track with my stock wheels/TPMS miles away at home, sometimes it allows me to turn off AH and sometimes it doesn't.
And it's not just '05 specific either.
