Mirko Enjoy your car when you get back to Germany. At least you can use a car in Europe not like in the US. Stay off those 3 lane suicide roads in France. Good luck Bill S.

Oil temp on highway (75 mls) goes 230 and easily continues towards 280 when using 5th and 4th.
Will take the car back to Germany and am concerned for high speed continuous driving on the Autobahn. I know that driving in lower gears here in the States to "simulate" more continuous higher revs is not a perfect comparison as the higher speed would bring more cooling.
On the other side the Corvette should be able to run for an hour or two at 140 to 180 mls/h.
Higher speed might provide more cooling, but higher speed means much more air resistance and the car burns a lot more fuel, generating significantly more heat. I don't like being near the edge when it comes to heat. Heat tends to spill over so eventually some of the heat makes into the coolant and then to the tranny (if the car has a tranny cooler loop in the radiator).

I'd add an oil cooler. Since Germany can get cold, look for one with a thermostat that restricts flow until 180* if you drive in the winter. I've seen them discussed on here.

It sounds high to me, but the Autobahn speeds can change alot compared to US-Hwy. speeds...... I would say if your oil level is RIGHT ON, then you should add an oil cooler!

Check that nothing is caught in front of the radiator air intake. A bag, plastic, bunch of pine needles, leaves, etc.

A trans running 180* will last longer than 1 running 220*

A few things.

215 for trans temp is too high, and thats a fact. especially if its a regular occurrence. Heat kills the 6L80 and needs to be mitigated. Buying a transcooler will help tremendously. My trans temps, as long as I'm cruising on the high way at 65-75mph, stay under 180 even on a 100F day. Also heat shielding the transmission lines where they get close to the header or other heat sources help as well.

If your oil if getting up to 280 i would be concerned as well. An oil cooler would really help this as well. Also i would consider a thicker oil to prevent thinning at high temps. I run 5w-40 in my car due to the hot climate I live in.
