For some reason the last few times I have filled up my car I get the strong gas smell coming through my a/c vents and I really have no clue why. I thought at first it was because it overflowed but its like to strong to drive with the a/c on. Any clues?
check the engine bay. theres a cap on the end of one of the fuel rails. Make sure its screwed in all the way. check fuel lines for leaks. look for deposits around your injector seals
check under the car - can you smell it coming from one particular area?
sometimes the seals on the gas tanks are faulty and people have reported having to get them replaced.
el es says it check the engine bay. Especially if you smell gas while traveling forward at speed.
Other than a hole in the firewall, air enters the cabin through the vents in the plastic panel at the base of the windshield and possibly through the cabin filter plastic cover behind the battery.
Smelling gas through the AC is bad juju because it surely means you have gas vapors in the engine compartment. I'd be cautious about even driving it until you figure out where it's coming from. Any smells at the rear wheel wells, or visible leaks in or around the car?
Also check that your recirculation door is actually working. Take the in acbin filter out and watch to see if the baffle moves when someone pushes the recirulation button. I smelled oil (vented oil cap breather) even while on recirc but it turned out my baffle was not working.
Buty also address where the gas smell is coming from.

The cap is tight on the end of my fuel rail and I see no build up. It only happens when I fill the car all the way up.
I'd make sure the cabin filter cover/flap/door is secured down (by the battery). If it's open and the prongs aren't down, the smell of gas will seep in. Happened to me last week.
Not from me but haven't had the car very long. And at one time there was an amp there.
Reason I asked is because there was another member on here where a stereo installer drilled through the car into the fuel tank. Was curious if someone had maybe hit a transfer line.

Yea the last owner mounted an amp and hit the tank with the screws. Pulled tank out and fixed it... Sucks you have to drop tranny to pull tank out.
