I have an 09 A6 car that I am having a problem with.

The car made 477 at the rear wheels. Runs and drives perfect when you are moving slow or on the highway. The problem is that when stopped in gear the car will start surging and die (or just die). I can put the car in neutral/park and the car will start and idle perfect all day long, but when you put it in gear it dies. To get going, you have to rev it up and put it in gear. It has about got me ran over a few times now.
The car has been back to the original tuner 4 times and they can't figure it out. So I took it in to Chevrolet and they did a full diagnostics on the car and everything comes out perfect. So then, I took the car to another tuner im my area. They suggested the throttle body as a potential problem. So I replaced that with a brand new one....still the same problem. They tried to work on the tune also and no matter what they throw at it....same problem... Both of these tuners are very well known and do a great job. I am convinced that it is probably not in the tune, but have no idea where to go from here

Go se Chris or Arvil at Xtreme Horsepower and they will fix you up. Arvil tought tuning at one of the big trade schools and can work EFI and HP tuners. Chris held the world record for fastest LS car for a while

It's not the tune most likely. 2 shops have tuned it that have a very good reputation. And XHP has never had the fastest LS car.....maybe the fastest on motor in a 3rd gen racecar for a short time but....
Seems to be more of a Camaro issue right now, but again this is something to look for, especially if the issue gets worse the longer the car is driven as it effects the trims on the car.
I think you should look at the stall converter. It may not be stalling @2800...it may be too tight. That's a pretty big cam and you may want to entertain the thought of uping the stall to a 3200 or 3600. I'm running a smaller(spinmonster)cam with a 3600 and it's real streetable. Your tuner should be able to determine whats happening on a dyno. If your still running the 256 or 273 gears...you may want to look into upgrading to 315's or 342's. Good luck...Please keep us posted.

I could see how that would improve performance, but the car isn't trying to pull through the converter or anything when sitting still. The car has the stock gears. Not sure what they are, but it has the Z51 package if that makes a difference

A Z51 A6 LS3 comes with 273 gears. If it's stalling in gear and not in nuetral I would make sure the converter is Not locking up.
Is that cam bigger than my 231/240 617/613 114+2? I drove with my cam for a year and a half before I took stock converter out and put a stall in. Not sure why it would make a difference but I have an A4 not A6. My car idled in and out of gear perfectly. Can you post your tune here?
