battery replacement for Z06
I want to spend a few minutes and discuss my battle with replacing a battery in a Z06. Hopefully, my heartache will save you
.First of all, car was broken into so while waiting on parts she's been in the garage. it must have been time for the battery to be replaced because its only been about 2 weeks. So its time to go to the dealership for replacement parts and guess what? No juice! I tried to jump, accessories came on but not enough power to turn over.
no biggie, time for the upgrade. Bought me a red top (off craigslist) brand new
so now the fun begins,
1. remove the door, its a tight fit and you will need all the room you can get.
2. you only need a small socket/ratchet to complete to remove the cable. for some reason, GM did not leave any room, so the positive cable will not move or bend, you can move the negative out of the way.
3. Here is the most important part of the post: if your battery does not have handles, its a mother*&%& to try to remove. I found a tool at your local parts store (O'reilly's) for $17. Now this may or may not seem like a lot or maybe you can accomplish the removal without one, but that was the best $17 i have ever spent. Before I bought this part, i wrestled for close to an hour. the forum has a few articles that talk about, duck tape or battery straps etc. BUY THE TOOL!!
4.Old battery came out, new battery went in within 5 minutes.
Im not sure why this is not documented but i felt the need to say something.
Can't wait to get my girl back on the road.
safe travels,

Been there and done that with my 06Z several years ago. I did buy the battery strap at O'Reilly's during a recent visit for other things when I happened to see it. Nice addition to my tool chest for the next time.
