Default American Racing Header Installation

(Pic.1)Oil Lines are laying on Header, (Pic.2) Close to main frame 3/16", (Pic.3) Close to suspension 3/16". Suggestion as to what I do without prying and breaking lines.

Not touching main frame just about 3/16 away. Is that enough clearance?

Not touching suspension right at about 3/16. Is this enough clearance?

Note: This was the second time putting headers on a vett. I basically installed everything loose so it would all fit up. Once I was happy with placement I went back under car kind put header where i felt it should be with one person tightening from the top. Once bolts were tight it pulled itself to where it wanted to be. So, I'm left with do I do anything or what do I do. I will take any suggestions. I had one person at home tell me to just wrapped the oil line with fire blanket type material. But, it would still be touching.

There's a small bracket holding the lines. I removed the bolt and postioned the bracket so that the bolt head clamps down on the bottom of the bracket. Doing this moves the lines away from the header because you're moving the bracket up from where it's currently mounted. Simple.

my american racing headers do not sit this close to any one of those 3 places. Maybe your system needs to be realigned?

There should be some play in the lines.

I'd work with that a bit to see if you can get any more clearance.

You need to move the oil lines. Follow turbo's suggestion. As long as the suspension part is fixed to the frame (not moving during suspension travel) and your motor mounts are in good condition, 3/16" clearance is fine. Same goes for the frame.

You can have a helper start the car while you are under it and have him rev the motor while you observe the movement. Of course, make sure it is on solid jack stands.

1) I have read that you can dent the pipes in as much as 1/3 and not affect performance!!! I put a nice smooth long dent in the collector on my Chinese headers were the trans oil line touched for clearance than wrapped some header wrap around the oil line and finish the line off with Reynolds wrap to reflex the heat. Used SS tie wire to hold the header wrap and tin foil in place. Used a marker to plan out dent. Hell after taking another look, a small dent to give you approx. 1/2" clearance should do fine because heat rises anyway.
2) I think that header tube that is close to your frame may burn the paint on your frame over time, maybe a very short time so I would wrap that tube with header wrap in that area. Getting the headers coated after you make a few alterations but before running can not hurt and may help big time with the amount of heat that is radiated from the tubes; coating will pick up performance too.
3) That suspension part is all aluminum and not a large area that is really close to the tube so "I" would not be worried about the last pic. Good to go I my book.

Default Update Header Modification

I was able to bend lip down away from header giving me more clearance.

The passenger side was a little more difficult but I was able to get at least 3/4 to 1inch clearance.

I was able to slowly and safely bend lines off of header about 3/8inch. My plan is to insulate with something to assist.

These lines were on the passenger side but was able to get a 1/4 to 3/8 clearance.

I'm a little bit happier now getting these clearances.
Thanks for your replys.
