Default LS2 Headers and Tune - What next?

I installed Kooks 1 7/8" headers with a 3" x-pipe and B&B Bullets last weekend. I got a CEL after 2 days and decided to get a tune today. Final results: 359 rwhp/363 rwtq. I'm amazed at how low the numbers were for the first run since the headers and exhaust were already installed (329/349).

After seeing these numbers I now want more. My tuner said if I get a cam to get something in the low 220s duration so I won't have to upgrade my converter. Would this one be alright? I was thinking about going with the 115 LSA because I want the car to sound like it's going to die.

Next easy mod should be a cold air intake of some sort. You can buy one the feeds from outside air or buy a big-filter type setup like the K&N, Halltech, Airaid, etc... and open up the shroud to feed it outside air.

I would do a Ported FAST intake before a cam as your next major mod.

You'll pick up TONS (20-30+ in the midrange) of power all over and it only takes about 1.5 hours to swap in a garage with nothing but the most basic set of tools.

If it doesn't have a cold air on the car yet I would make sure to do that next.

Depending on how big you want to go with a cam...what would be the better option. If you want to keep it as close to stock driving as possible then I would do the FAST intake next before a cam as it will increase both HP and TQ across the board and not change drivablity at all.

If you are wanting to go bigger with the cam, and don't mind a rough cam package then you would probably see more HP with the cam, but not the same TQ increase as you would with the intake.

On my 2006 Z51 M6 car, I picked up a total of 47 rwhp, and 64 rwtq with our 1 3/4" Pro Long Tubes, FAST intake (not ported), cold air induction, Borla exhaust and tune. Total 401 rwhp, 409 rwtq when I was finished, and the car drove like stock.

these are very common mods that are well documented - even porting the stock intake manifold/tb shows decent gains for the cost.

I would gain that much with the stock heads? I was going to upgrade to a ported fast when I do the heads/cam install, but if I can gain that much right now then I may as well do that first. Maybe my next mods will be a ported FAST and Callaway Honker. Any objections to the Honker?

I don't want to port the stock stuff. Go big or go home, right? I just have a feeling if I port the stock intake/tb that I'll want something more in the future.

So $325 to get a FAST and tb ported. Not bad. Would it be worth it to get a 102mm tb to go with the FAST or just port my stock one?

Nothing wrong with a good ported stock Intake... Looks like Jesse did good work on that car..

Cold air intake, cam, and loose converter would be my next additions.

Jesse was awesome. He came in after work on Saturday so I wouldn't have to make a trip during the week. I can't wait to see what he can do after I install more mods.

I do not have the correct answer for that one.

I think it depends on your time frame and ultimate goals as well as funds. Personally I'm enjoying the power of my LS2 immensely. It dynoed high from the start though. Currently I have Kooks headers, off road X, Corsa, Vararam, and Formatto ported Stage 2 manifold and TB. eventually going to an SD MAFless tune ported 102 FAST, Trickflow 225's as well as the cam Jeremy has spec'd for me. The cam goes in next month.

I have 4-5k to spend over the winter so I can get pretty much anything except a blower (which I don't want anyway). I'd like to make it somewhere around the 450/425 range. Anything above that would be a plus.

For 5k you CAN get an A&A kit that comes with a Vortec headunit and make over 100 more rwhp than you goal

On my 05 I also had your Long Tube pros with a ported Fast vararam and tune. Total was 401 rwhp and 397rwtq. without going into the engine I think these kind of mods really wake an LS2 up. Exactly like yours, it drove like stock and performed very well when you got on it.

Ported intake might show good peak numbers but it will never make the power under the curve or the torque of a FAST.
