I'm looking at a prospective 05 purchase. It is has a 4speed AT and is a lo milage car.
With the very little that I have driven the car the performance seems to be less than the 08 with AT I have driven.
Is there a big difference in the performance of the different model years and if so are there some easy modifications to bring the performance up to comparable.

I have a 2005, LS2, A4 with 3.15 gears not a bad performer but no match for a 08, LS3, A6 with NPP and the optional gears if both are showroom stock.
Yes you can modify the earlier Corvette to perform better but the newer LS3 starts off with 30 more horsepower.
You also need to consider the build date of the 2005 Corvette you are interested in purchasing. The early cars produced prior to Jan 2005 had several issues. You should check out the FAQ sticky in the General section, good luck
You could probably find an 06-07 with similar miles for close to the same $$ as an 05. Better tranny (auto 6spd), rear-end is stronger and a few other things.
I absolutely love my M6 05 LS2. Slowly modding it to be my dream car. Having said that, had I had the option of starting with an LS3 I would've gone that route especially if I were buying an auto

Purchased a beautiful crystal red 08 yesterday. 15,000mi A6,Z51,NPP
LT3.
It was a 200+mi trip home. On the way home on the open highway at speeds above 70 started hearing an annoying buzz, sounding like it was comming from behind the center of the dash, the sound would come and go in frequency and level of annoying buzz sound.
When I got home logged into the forum and did a search for an idea as to what is making the noise.
Quickly found a thread that fit the symtoms to a T. The lower windshield cowl peice is suspect where it meets the windshield glass. Went right out to the garage and there I could see the black cowl peice is not fully bonded to the widshield and can very well be the problem.
I beleive it's a simple repair and the car has full warranty remaining.
Mine actually rattles/vibrates from the inside...if you put pressure down where the dash meets the window on the drivers side it stops. I plan on putting something down their to put pressure on it all the time.
Vibrations/rattles are just part of the vette experience, unfortunately. If it isn't one thing it's another.
The power/performance usually makes up for the annoyances though.
