2.73 gears were standard and 3.15s were a freestanding option and were also a standard part of the Z51 package in automatics.

The 2005 rears are known to be a little weaker than those that came before and after it but they do hold up well in automatics that aren't raced/abused too often.
The trans is strong and does usually hold up well.
I would just follow the standard maintenance/fluid change schedules and such and before careful to avoid wheel hop and head accelerations over rough surfaces.
It's difficult to say for sure as there are so many potential contributing factors (elevation, temperature, wind speed, condition of vehicle etc.) but generally speaking, probably somewhere in the 175-180mph range bone stock (or stock with a Corsa cat back).
Are you sure that you have the 2.73 rear gears though?

Again if your car came with the Z51 package (does it have the larger crossed drilled rotors?) then it definitely has the 3.15s but I'm assuming that it's not a Z51 car.
Other than that you can tell by looking at the build code sheet/sticker usually stuck inside the glove box or center box (look for the code GU2 (2.73s) or G90 (3.15s)), by driving on the highway and noting the RPMs (very low at say 60mph) or by crawling under the back of the car and looking at the tags on the rear itself.
i am going to put my cars pictures tomorrow than but it is z51 package because it has drilled brakes on it
If you didn't buy it new, a previous owner could have put the drilled rotors on it. Look at the options sticker on the extreme left side of the inside of the glove box. Look for the codes that LS1LT1 told you about above. Those 3-character codes will be in alphabetical order. Z51 will also be on the sticker if it has the Z51 option package.

But if it is a 2005 with the Z51 package then it definitely left the factory with 3.15 gears (although even if it actually doesn't have Z51 then it still could have them as well).
The codes/sticker is your best bet.
Congratulations, you do in fact have the 3.15 rear axle ratio (either one of the codes 'G90' and/or 'Z51' (along with 'MXO') are the dead giveaways...provided that the car/rear hasn't been modified in the past that is).
As in limited slip differential?
No you don't need it as you already have one (even the 2.73 geared rear has that). But a fluid change (along with the necessary limited slip additive) probably wouldn't hurt though as a way of keeping it maintained/in good working order.

Again difficult to say but likely somewhere in that same 175-180+ range.

It depends on what your plans are for the car. For fast street duty or even light drag strip use that rear is fine, many have gone well into the low 11s and even the 10s in the 1/4 mile on that rear with an automatic so it's good. It's just that when one starts to add some REAL power along with sticky tires to it that it starts to complain a little.
Mine has Z51 and MX0, also at 60mph the motor is turning 1350rpms. (A6 transmission as I have an '08)
Yes but the A6 is a totally different world from the A4, you have 2.73s but are still turning WAY less RPM than aksoyemircan's car at the same speeds even if his had the standard 2.73s.
My A6 has only 2.56 gears and only turns like 1200rpm at 60mph! Gotta love a high 10 second car that gets 31+mpg.
