Cracked my Differential Case, ordered a new GM one... Problem.....
OK I broke the output shaft on my trans at the track, it in turn cracked my differential case as well.... So I went to the dealer and ordered one via my Vin number... Well everything on them are identical. but the numbers on the case are the same, except for one number... there is one problem... The sensor that goes in the top of the case is not machined like the on that was in the car.... I was wondering if they all come like this and we have to have them machined, or what?
There are so many little minor details and mid year/production run differences between the various 2006-2011 C6 'manual transmissioned' rears that's it's difficult to keep up with them.
That does look like it can be punched out/tapped and made to work though.
It would take 5 minutes to drill/tap it versus the 1 week+ to wait for a new one.
The larger hole to the right of the small one appears to have an "O" ring installed in the first picture. If it is, would be close to impossible, first to cut bore ID dimension, then the "O" ring groove free hand to provide the .003" radius corners, while maintaining concentricity. There are many ways to kill a cat, I can come up with many in this case but bottom line, not worth it for practicality. Just my .02!
I would send it back. If you drill and tap it and you find an issue with it that requires a warranty replacement (part only) you will be SOL because you modified it. Get the correct part.
Yeah I broke it at the track with et streets on it... It had a differential brace, and hardened output shafts in the diff.... but the trans output shaft broke and caused all of it...haha
