Has anyone removed their mufflers completely, and just run straight pipes? At an early December run, there was an owner who did this. I spoke with him breifly, and liked the way the car sounded.
Here's the issuue. Wife's car 2010 C6. Completley stock. Automatic. 11,000 miles in the last year. Will be typical. She never drives over 80 mph, or over 3,000 rpms. She typically gets on it hard (for her) from a stop and then cruises. Wants it to sound better. Has the factory dual system. I don't see a need for thousands of $ for modifications she will never use.
I have not, but others have. You're going to get mixed reviews from the group here, but most will tell you not to do it saying the drone will drive you crazy, especially with an automatic. It won't be exactly the same but you could remove the mufflers and over axle pipes and take it around the block to see what you think.

It will be ear-splittingly loud and your neighbors will hate you. If she ever does get on it hard over 3,000 RPM, the car will be audible literally for miles.
I have the B&B Bullets on my 05 automatic, which is strait pipes and 4 shiny 4" tips. Its loud, its mean, and it gets a lot of attention. YES there is a drone but I dont care, turn on the tunes and the drone disappears. YES I daily drive my 05, it has 95k miles and counting.
The problem I have with removing the muffler is the H-pipe will be aiming that hot air right at your transmission and rear differential. You'll be heating up your transmission and could (over time) cause gears to slip.
Maybe you should consider doing the muffler mod to your NPP system. you'll cut an opening in the side of the muffler, then take a section of pipe that has been sliced open long ways like a hotdog bun. That section of pipe will be wrapped around the NPP pipe inside of the muffler and welded in place, then you weld the opening closed. The pipe inside the muffler looks like swiss cheese, this mod will make is a solid strait pipe.

When the OP spoke of running straight pipes I would think that meant replacing the mufflers with pipe only, still exiting out the back. I would not suggest using the car long term with the exhaust ending before the rear axle.
The system I saw and heard had the piping to the rear, and retained the stock tips. Simply cutoff from above the axle to the tips.
I'm now thinking I should add a three point connection so I could switch back and forth between the two. Or at least put it back if she did not like it.
Straight pipes sound like hot mess. Or your nephew's hand-me-down 85 Silverado after he hack-sawed the exhaust off at the merge collector.
I ran straight pipes for about 3 days while I waited for a new exhaust to show up. I swapped to a Z06 diff that has a slightly different casing. The stock over-axle pipes I was using would not go back on due to clearance issues. I immediately bought a Z06 over-axle set and drove straight piped in the mean time until it showed.
It was pretty ridiculous, and driving the car was almost embarrassing. The attention you get will not be largely positive. And this is coming from a guy who runs no cats, long tubes, and an SLP Loudmouth, so it's still very loud. It at least sounds somewhat restrained now though.
Just swap the stock mufflers out for a welded-in set of dynomax bullets or similar if loud and cheap is what you're after.
I'd try straight pipes before spending the coin on something you might not like. I have stingers and I'm not happy with the sound at all!!! My old 2000 z71 with straight pipes sounded wayyy better than my 2008 vette. I know all of this is subjective but the stingers cost over 1000 dollars and I think they're quite
It's all subjective, but in all honesty my truck did sound better. Maybe you don't think so but over 1000 for a muffler is crazy. I wish I spent 50 dollars to hack the pipes and checked if I liked it or not.
