Default Electronic door handles

Does anyone else have trouble with the electronic door handles on their C6? I can never get the door to open on the first try. Are my hands too cold or do I just not have "the touch"

Mine was a bad FOB. I replaced the battery (CR2032) and that did not work. Once I switched to FOB #2, no problems with the doors opening.

Your hands are not too cold. Others have reported problems with the switch getting dirty and not working. There are quite a few threads on the topic if you do a search. Basically comes down to either cleaning or replacing the switches although there have been cases of it being something else, but this is the most common fix.

If you're just a little bit handy, try cleaning the entry pads per this:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-pads-too.html

If you need to replace them they are about $15(ish) at the dealer.

I think it's foolish/wasted technology.

I'd just as soon have a small mechanical lever to pull in the same location.

It's just one more than that can go wrong.

Mechanically, this system is simpler than a conventional handle with an electronic lock.

And if you get rid of the electronic lock then you're back to fussing with keys, which also go wrong. Plus with no motor in there you couldn't have an unlock button on the fob, which is a non-starter in the marketplace.

Once a car already has a BCM and a data bus, a system like this one is simpler (and no doubt lighter) than the conventional alternative.

I agree 100% and I wish an aftermarket vendor would develop a replacement/retrofit manual latch/handle assy.

If there is anything I hate about my car (with a passion) it's the stupid electronic doors and pushbutton starter. I think GM has too many engineers trying to justify their jobs with unnecessary and annoying gadgets.

I could walk in to any junkyard in the nation and have less trouble opening the doors on a smashed-up rusted 50yr old pile of scrap.

My driver's door became very intermittent. I swapped it (2 screws) with the passenger's door. I'll get a switch when I remember.

Just take them apart and clean them. I used a scotch brite pad to clean the copper terminals on my 05. They work as good as new now, and it only took 10 minutes.
