Default 05 C6 LS2 tuning problems

I went to get my 05 C6 Z51 tuned today by Steve Williams of TunedbyFrost.com at Performance Autosport in Richmond, VA. The car has Lingenfelter CAI, LG Super Pro headers with catless x-pipe, Corsa Xtreme exhaust, and 160* tstat. Here's a brief rundown of what when on.

Baseline dyno run was 368hp 375tq at the wheels. Steve made some adjustments and nothing changed (hp/tq) on the next pull. More adjustments and another pull... no change. One more time and it actually dropped 3hp. Steve said he's seen this on a couple other LS2 cars, mainy GTOs and 1 other C6. He changed timing, fuel, ect but no matter what the car wouldn't respond to any of it. He ended up putting the stock tune back in and gave me a big discount.

I'm still not sure as to why nothing changed after advancing timing 3+ degrees and changing AF from 12.07 to 12.85 at WOT. I believe he mentioned something about the 243 heads that come on the LS2 liking a lot of fuel, not sure about that but I don't know much. Either way, it was disappointing but at least the car sounds great.

I'm posting this to see if anyone else has heard of this or has an experience with this issue. Steve was great to work with and I fully believe he knows what he's doing and that's why this is so frustrating. I just don't get why the numbers don't reflect the changes he was making.

You might want to talk with Justin at Zip Corvettes in Mechanicsville.

That is strange and this is the first time I've heard of this happening.

Also, you are maxed out with 368/375. That's about what I had with bolt ons. Your results are high for an 05.

Nice to see an Honest tuner.

Bottom line is the mods that you had installed had offset the safety "slop" with in the factory tune. Pretty common really but having a tuner own up to it is not. At that point he should have done the usual CAGS/Trans, Tq Mgt, fans and other misc code stuff, patted you on the butt and sent you home.

TunedbyFrost has a good reputation.

If the car wasn't making anymore power then it wasn't making anymore power and your numbers seem about on par for where they should be. Air:Fuel looks solid.

I think everything looks great! There is nothing wrong with the factory tune being optimal with basic bolt-ons. The fact that it doesn't want anymore timing indicates efficient combustion.

The tuner should still be able to "tune" the car. CAGS, TM, fan temps and IAT/ECT retard can all be adjusted.

It happens. No need to find a new tuner.

Steve was very straight forward and gave me a pretty hefty discount. He still did the other misc things but felt bad he couldn't get more out of the car. I will definitely be going back to him for my next tune.

Thanks for the answers guys. It makes me feel better to know my car isn't abnormal.

Nope, if anything you were actually one of the lucky ones who had a car not running pig-rich, lol.
