Default Changing Balancer..Dropping the rack

I have just assembled the parts and tools I think I need to swap to an underdrive pulley. Before I tackle the job, I was wondering if I would have to disconnect both lines and both tie-rod ends and remove the rack completely or just remove the one side bolt, loosen the other and just move it up a bit.
Thanks

Your going to have to remove both lines and the rack completely. You will not have to take it all the way out. Just enough to work around it.

Thanks. From what I see its 2 lines, 2 mounting bolts, and the 2 tie-rod ends, does that sould like the extent of it?

yes and be prepared to be spilling a lot of power steering fluid. As for the steering rack that is it. 2 tie ends, 2 mounting and 2 lines.

While you're down there, you might want to consider pinning your crank in case later on you decide to go with a S/C.

Put a two piece timing cover on too, in case of cam...Do they still even make those?

And don't forget the 11mm (IIRC) screw that holds the steering wheel shaft to the steering box.

Dropping the cradle and rasing the engine is easier.

I was wondering about this. Can you loosen the 4 nuts holding the cradle, not remove them all the way, but just unscrew them most of the way, let the cradle hang on them; remove the lower motor mount bolts, and the then jack the motor up a tad bit to gain enough room?

I bought an Edelbrock one, but it didn't fit. It hit the crank gear.

removing the rack is not hard at all. slide it half way out of the passenger side wheel well.

Raising the engine requires the removal of 2 nuts.

Dropping the cradle requires the removal (8) A-Arm Bolts, (4) shock Bolts, (2) ABS nuts, (2) power steering cooler bolts and (4) cradle bolts. All easily done with air tools.

Easy once you acutally do it and much cleaner in the end.

When raise engine, need to check clearance between IM and firewall, especially if you have Fast102.
