I have a '06 coupe with magnetic ride shocks. It now has a set of Kumho XS tires and more aggressive brake pads, both installed for autocrossing. Would appreciate any suggestions for setting caster, camber and toe-in. Will use for autocross only; very little street use and no track activities. Any other suggestions for setting the car up or tips on driving are appreciated, as it's been 40 years since I raced........so I know there's a long learning curve ahead. Thanks very much.
pFadt has a pretty good sheet for suggested alignment settings for different driving environments. Run a search and you will most likely come across it.
Here is a copy of our Alignment guide Jeff. These numbers are generally more skewed for higher speed road course use, but should work pretty well for Autox as well. You may want to play around with toe settings to help the car rotate for a little for lower speed autox, but this will give you a great baseline to start from. Since you're new here I'll just mention that there is a dedicated Forum for Road Racing/Auto-X which will probably be a better place to discuss your setup with guys that do the racing on a regular basis.
Taken19,
Thanks very much for the advise. I went to the site last night and it's what I was looking for. Looks like the PFADT responded to me, too, after your response. Thanks again, Jeff
PFADT - thanks for further clarification on your alignment recommendations. I definitely would appreciate a little more toe-in to return on center quickly - at least I seem to recall that. Same for the rear? Thanks again, Jeff
Tires are great for autocross if not going to r-compound tires. You will be just fine with the dual street track alignment unless you go to r-compounds again. You can crank in a little toe to aid turn in but I keep mine at zero as I drive the car everyday.
Biggest piece of advise, seat time. Remember smooth is fast but you still need to be aggressive.
T - Great advice and I'll heed it. I do recall what it feels like to push. While not many times, I also recall leading with the rear end......... An unnatural feeling. Thanks much, Jeff
