I'm hearing a slow tick or clicking sound at the front of the engine. At idle its every 1-2,3 seconds. If I rev the engine it becomes constant or seems it.
I thought it was a loose accessory belt, but after looking at the engine, I see the belt tightener on the passenger side.
A video may help a lot, there are a lot of things that could click or chirp. The easiest thing would be something on the accessory drive like a tensioner or even the belt itself?
Whip the belt off and run it for a few seconds. If the chirp is gone you will know for sure it is belt/pulley related. If it's there still then it's something else. Takes five minutes.
Don't run it too long like this as the water pump/power steering etc won't be pumping.
I had a chirping noise which ended up being exhaust manifold gaskets. Bizarre?

http://youtu.be/Fg1eTmGXwCc Hard to see the vibration, but you can definitely here it. Alright Doctors, what do you think?
got the same exact chirp...just dropped mine off earlier today. will keep u posted. most likely a pulley, hopefully. if this a common issue, anyone think its cold weather/battery-related?
Have you tried running it without the belt yet? Takes only a few minutes and could save you a small fortune.
I'm taking it off tomorrow after work and we'll see. Dealership already ordered the harmonic pulley and bolt kit, so I'll take it to them on Wed if this doesn't work.
Big weekend in Charlotte and Greensboro this wkd, so wanted to make sure the vette was ready.
Marine Chevrolet in Jacksonville, NC fixed it. They had trouble all week finding an available harmonic balancer, but got it yesterday and fixed it this morning. Car runs great now. No chirping and you can definitely tell the balancer is "balanced" now. Cost $950. I'm happy with it, and nice to have my car back.
Just got back from the stealer with 2011 GS for the same issue. The service writer told me the chirp was my exhaust system, told me GM had issued a service bulletin on this. How do know if this is my balancer?
$950 for a balancer repair? Wow, I would be calling someone at GM to discuss that. This is a known problem, and was a recall issued for it on 2005 models. My car has the hood liner scuffed up from the belt coming off with the previous owner due to the balancer. If I had to pay for a repair I would be installing aftermarket balancer, and pinning the crank.
