They are finally heat cycled out but still have some tread left - I could probably do another 2,000 street miles to get down to the wear bars. In the last two sessions, I could feel them getting greasy and afterwards the data from the traqmate confirmed my suspicions that their grip was reduced (tire pressure was constant, track temps had increased but it was not hot,~75f).

Prior to retirement I was getting peak g's of 1.35g's with sustained of 1.1g to 1.2g (data measured by Traqmate). They are very good tires and I was very impressed (at Mosport I was chasing down a Porsche GT3 on Michelin cups driven by a very good driver). I can post a video if you are interested.

I have a new set of RS-3's (also 265/305) and will be taking those to Mosport next week. I also have some R6's and will be using those as well. I bought the RS-3's to try something different even though I loved the RE-11's.

I will compare the data from the new RS-3's against the RE-11's. Seeing as the RS-3's are new and not shaved, they will be at a disadvantage.
I would sure like to see the video. I'm planning on going with re-11s after my GYs. Are you running stock rims with the 265/305s? Also, if don't mind sharing the exact size and whether or not you have AH /TC issues. Thx a lot.

Sorry for the hijack...

Also, good move on the pfadt poly bushings. They were the first suspension mod that I did (Z51 package). They give a noticeable better feel in the corners. I was thinking about the DRM Bilsteins as there is lots of positive feedback but I went all in and got the LG G2 coilovers and G1 sways. The springs are stiff but the shocks are not overly harsh even with the poly bushings.
Thanks for the words. If you could compare newer RE-11's to the new RS-3's, it would be almost apples to apples. I agree with you about the unfair advantage of broken in tires vs. brand new unshaven ones.

I'm getting excited... Oil tank back in (again), all is poor tight and my last adapter harness is sitting on my counter. I should be able to fire her up for the first time when I get home from work tomorrow morning. Keep your fingers crossed - I gotta lot of blood and sweat (and money) in this project.

Default Got the data on RE-11 versus RS-3

Ran at Mosport yesterday (May 23rd). Gathered data with Traqmate and compared it to data gathered at Mosport on May 11th.

Before you read the stats, I have not reached a conclusion as to which tire is better. As I said in a previous post, it's not fair to compare a tire that has been heat cycled and has been shaved down from use to a brand new tire with no heat cycles and full tread.

FYI, I am an HPDE driver with no affiliation to any tire manufacturers.

Test conditions:

Weather - conditions were similar, no rain, temps on May 11th were ~64f versus 65f to 80f on May 23rd (warmed up during the day)

Track conditions - similar with a slight preference to May 23 as there had been more races on the track which should have laid down more rubber since the 11th.

Car - C6 Z51 with LG G2 coilovers and G1 bars, pfadt poly bushings, 2 degrees negative camber. Brake pads at Carbotech xp10 on front and Cobalt XR2 on rear. No changes were made to the car from May 11 to May 23rd (except tires).

Tires - May 11th was Bridgestone RE-11, two years old with 14 track days (i.e. lots of heat cycles as most track days had 5+ sessions) and approximately 10,000 miles 265/35 front, 305/30 rear

May 22nd was Hankook RS-3, brand new with 10 street miles and no heat cycles. Same sizes as the Bridgestone.

I compared my 6 best laps from May 11 to my 10 best laps on May 23rd (ran more laps on May 23). I dropped all my slowest laps and did not cherry pick laps to favor one tire over another. I did not include any laps from the first session on May 23 as the RS-3 tires were new (mold release compound).

Lap times

RE-11 average was 1:42.67 with a standard deviation of 0.516s
RS-3 average was 1:44.88 with a standard deviation of 1.1911s

RE-11 were quicker by 5.2%

Max braking g's

RE-11 average was 1.2247 g's with a standard deviation of 0.109 g's
RS-3 average was 1.1534 with a standard deviation of 0.0678 g's

RE-11 were stickier by 7.3%

Max right g's

RE-11 average was 1.2487 g's with a standard deviation of 0.0347 g's
RS-3 average was 1.2143 g's with a standard deviation of 0.0641 g's

RE-11 were stickier by 2.7%

Max left g's

RE-11 average was 1.2820 g's with a standard deviation of 0.082 g's
RS-3 average was 1.2545 g's with a standard deviation of 0.064 g's

RE-11 were stickier by 2.1%

Average right g's on Turn 2

RE-11 average was .6451 g's with a standard deviation of 0.014 g's
RS-3 average was .6072 g's with a standard deviation of 0.027 g's

RE-11 were stickier by 5.9%

Average left g's on Turn 3

RE-11 average was .6359 g's with a standard deviation of 0.025 g's
RS-3 average was .6154 g's with a standard deviation of 0.010 g's

RE-11 were stickier by 3.2%

Average left g's on Turn 8

RE-11 average was .6309 g's with a standard deviation of 0.047 g's
RS-3 average was .5407 g's with a standard deviation of 0.017 g's

RE-11 were stickier by 14.3%

Thoughts
The RS-3's felt good, no better and no worse than the RE-11's. They held up well but showed a little more wear than the RE-11's did at first. I am a little disappointed in the times as I thought that I was driving a better line - I got some in car coaching from Kyle Marcelli (ALMS driver and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge) and should have been faster yesterday. I am looking forward to wearing in the RS-3's and expect that they will get faster.

Great info!!!

I'm very interested to see data as these new R-S3's get broken in and stickier.

Do you have any data from the RE-11's when they were new?

Unfortunately not. I only got the Traqmate this year. I will keep gathering data as the RS-3's 'mature'. Next time out, I hope to have my new Hoosier's and will get data on those as well.

I am now spending a few hours after each track day going through all the data. It's cool and helps me learn what changes to the car work and what don't. It also helps me analyze driving lines, braking points, and other things. Highly recommended but you can also get almost all the capabilities with much cheaper hardware and software - check out Bill Dearborn's post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/auto...with-data.html.

Does anyone have data on 245/285 vs 265/305 combo (on stock wheels)?

Did you find that the R-S3's talked to you at the limit? I want my next set to still communicate to me as I'm still learning and don't quite feel ready for Hoosiers yet.

If you find that you don't want the R-S3's anymore, send 'em my way. I'll buy them off you if they are the 265/305 combo.

Both RE-11 and RS-3 communicate their limit well and inspire confidence. They will squeal as you get close to the limit and then break away gradually. That's one of their biggest advantages as they help you to figure out the car's limits without surprising you. The RS-3's were more quiet (i.e. they squealed less) than the RE-11.

I also noticed that a lot of other drivers were running RE-11's (CTSV's, a bunch of 911's, S5's, etc.). No one else was running the RS-3's but they are all curious about their performance.

Thanks for the offer on the RS-3's. I am going to keep them and see how they do going forward. Hopefully they will last for at least 10 track days.
