Default My last engine mod... help

Currently my 05 m6 has a Vararam, Formatto stage 2 intake, ported TB, Kooks lt's, catless X, Corsa exhaust. The car put down just over 400rwhp which I was surprised with, but could feel as soon as I drove it. It's a beast at low RPM's. The car will never see a track. On the street 1st and 2nd are pretty much useless now, but it's a ton of fun. Jeremy stated there was still plenty to be gained from a ported FAST. It's either that or a medium cam. My issue with the cam is that I won't feel crap until 4000rpm's. I'm going to the TSW's with 305's on the rear to help with traction. With the sale of my Intake and the purchase, install, and tune for the fast I'm thinking 1k. Cam, install, and tune will be $2500 or so. With my preferences in mind I'm curious to hear opinions. The car does not get babied. It's rarely driven and when it is, it will see high triple digit speeds hence the carbon fiber aero mods. Opinions?

"it will see high triple digit speeds" + "The car will never see a track" =
Do you happen to work in Law Enforcement, or are the governor's brother or something? ;-)

I'm in the same boat on cams, I love to roll on the power at 3k more than wring it out at 6500. I'm looking at Texas Speed's 225/230 cam, google image has the dyno charts for it, and it's supposed to make more torque than stock even at 2500 RPM.

Thanks I will check it out. Yes I do work in Law Enforcement. I'm a driving Instructor for all levels of Police vehicle operations. We do training and close down sections of roads. When training is done, some of us play with our personal cars and even create scenario's involving our personal vehicles.

I'd like to keep what I have in the lower RPM range and have more power up top. I guess what everyone wants. Just more fun on the street.

Just an FYI... the best deal I've seen on the Fast 102 is at Hinson Motorsports. $799 shipped to your door.

Over a stage 2 Ported Intake? I would actually rather the FAST for a number of reasons. I've tried to search, has anyone done a comparison between a ported LS2 to a ported FAST?

I found some posts with a ported FAST 92 vs a posted LS2 and the gains are still very impressive with large gains under the curve. Looks like that's going to be the best fit.

Then a small cam will be perfect for you.

Definitely a cam...you will gain 200% more horsepower than the FAST will give you with a moderately sized cam (low-mid 230s duration)

Nitrous is always an option.

It's the best horsepower per dollar you can buy.

No other single mod to your car will give you 100-150hp for $800.

Just got back from a little drive and perhaps it's because the weather has warmed up, hence better traction and less HP due to higher IAT's but I don't think the FAST alone will give me what I want.
So 2 questions
1. How much will sticking with a ported OEM cost me with a medium size cam?
2. With the addition of a FAST allow a larger cam for more top end?
After the drive today I'm pretty sure I need a cam, but only want to do it once. If necessary I can have both done at the same time.
It's crazy how fast you get used to a given power level.

I don't know about LS2s, but my LS3 gained plenty below 4,000 RPMS. The entire curve shifted up about 25-40hp and ~50tq. Above 5700, I saw gains of 80-100hp and 60-80tq.

Here is my dyno comparing my intake, headers, throttle body to my cam.

I went with the QM "street bully". Duration is 227/239 with 114 lsa. Great power down low and basically has stock manners.

Was this just with the addition of a cam?! That's some serious power!

Do you still have some noticable lope? I do want that. Is yours an LS2? Some extra money fell from the sky today, so I'm looking at possibly doing one or both very soon although I'm not crazy about spending money on both if one will give me what I'm looking for. I don't want to have to stress to much about lugging the car at 1200rpm's, but I'd like the power to come on hard at 3k to 3500. I may give Jeremy a call and see what his input is as he will be doing install and tuning.

Yes sir. Cam, UDP, and tune.

The car made 421/398 with intake, headers, and a ported throttle body without being tuned. Right before I did the cam install, I took it to Proven power to make 3 quick dyno pulls to have a baseline.

It made 494/443 with the addition of the cam, underdrive pulley, and Formato tune.
