Default MGW Shifter

I just had the MGW short throw shifter installed in my 2008 base Coupe today and all I have to say is WOW!!! This makes an incredible difference in driving the car. The shifts are so much more positive and way faster. Now, I have only had it for a day, so I cannot yet attest to the longevity and reliability of these shifters, but I can't imagine that a product that works this well is not up to the task for the long haul. I opted for the addition of the Dynamat and had it installed at the same time (along with a CAGS eliminator...AWESOME!!) and I can't believe it. It is at least as quiet as my stock shifter with no additional noises or vibrations noted and the notching of this thing is just incredible!!! Even if you are TOTALLY against mods and don't plan to do anything else to your car, you NEED this shifter and the CAGS eliminator!! It will rock your world!! Anyway, thanks for an awesome product you guys at MGW. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for the posting. I am also eyeing one of those for my 11 GS. Did you use your stock **** or after market?. I plan to get the threaded handle with it to install the tall delrin ****. Not crazy about the factory **** with a bulge at one end.

The tall **** will lend itself to your aiming the shifter which can lead to missed shifts. Keep the stock **** and shift with your finger tips and the heel of your hand.

Actually, I opted to keep my stock ****... Was not sure about this, so I ordered the optional extra handle in case I ever wanted to change...but trust me... The stock **** makes WAY more sense when coupled with this shifter vs. stock shifter. The ****/stock shifter combo was REALLY sloppy to me, but I just love the stock **** when used on this MGW... As others have posted and I have already found.... Use your fingertips and hand heel to shift and let the shifter do the work.. The gating and spring loading on this MGW are awesome and if you allow it, it will keep you from missed shifts (which was the primary reason I switched from stock...TOO SLOPPY!!!). Excellent shifter and have already driven the hell out of her today!!! Now.... If I can just finish saving for my Lingenfelter supercharger setup.... Only about another 9-10 months to sheer Heaven!!!!

I just put the MGW shifter in my C5 and opted to use the C5 shift **** when I bought the shifter

now after installing, I find the **** cannot be tightened down totally

so a question about C6 ***** -- do they have a set screw? or how to you tighten them to orient them correctly?

Having personally used the stock ****, the MGW gripper **** and the MGW Race ****, I chose the Race ****. I sold the stock **** and if anyone wants my Gripper **** they can have it for a song. The tall **** enables me to more easily shift like Bill was describing, I pull back with my fingers and use the heel of my hand to push forward. Just my experience.

^^^True with tall ****!

IMO, shift **** style doesn't dictate shifting style but the operator does. I made my **** per MGW George's suggestion - 1 1/2" dia. x 2 3/4" long 304 stainless. As a bonus, weight helps with shifts and eliminates vibrations.

I know this may sound tacky, but couldn't you use a small rubber ball or plastic coated nut? Anything to take up a little bit of space inside the shifter handle and allow it to align better when tightened. Just a suggestion.

good suggestion but I tried something similar using a stack of small diameter flat washers

the problem I encountered was that as I tightened the **** onto the shaft, the top of the shaft starting fracturing the plastic of the ****

This is for a C5, correct?

When I had issues with the perfect alignment, I just turned it as much as possible and if it was off alignment, I backed it up and used that metal wedge that you bang in the top to hold the shifter **** into place. It don't spin with that metal wedge in place. If this is for C6, I don't know....I have C5. The stock supplied wedge always worked. One way to know if you have it is to gently opo the shifter cap off and it shoudl be right under it, snugly seated into the shifter shaft. You normally use two flat blade screwdrivers to ease it back out when changing shifters.....Hopefully this is making sense. If that is missing, that could solve your issues.

yes, on a C5

and the shift lever supplied by MGW does not have a slot for the wedge to engage, just threaded area at the top
