I have a 2006 C6 with A6 trans and this thing has never run what I consider in an acceptable temperature range (less than 180 deg).
While under the car I noticed that GM in their infinite wisdom ran the
transmission cooler lines 3/4 to 1/2 an inch from the right catalytic
converter pipe. This pipe gets 700-900 degrees so I thought I would
get some header wrap and insulate that portion of the pipe. My trans
temps in stop and go traffic were over 200 degrees now I have lost
10-20 degrees of temp by wrapping the exhaust pipe. Total cost $20
for 10' header wrap and 2 hose clamps. 15 minutes invested and worth
the money I think........
Anyone else do this and get some comparison numbers?
My A6 temps vary so much from day to day, and different driving conditions, that I'd need to do some very precise testing to see how much the temp had changed.
can you see tran temps if you have an 05 z51? Cuz all I see is oil temp but not specifically tranny oil, same thing?
It has nothing to do with RPO Z51. If you have a manual transmission, no transmission oil temperatures are displayed. If you have an automatic, the transmission oil temperature can be displayed.
The oil temperature you see displayed is the engine oil temperature, so that is not the same as the transmission oil temperature.

I took this one step further and put a heat sleeve over the trans lines and sprayed the header wrap with high temp silicone spray paint. The spray paint not only helps with heat but protects the thermal wrap.
