Transmission and Rear-diff fluids changes necessary?
I'm picking up my new to me '06 coupe Thursday. The seller put only 8,500 miles on it in 6 years. My question is whether or not I should change the transmission and rear-diff fluids?
I know to change the engine oil and flush and replace the coolant. Any other maintenance items I should take care of? This car was a true garage queen driven only on nice days and special weekends by an older retired guy. It's practically a new car, all things considered.
I'd definitely do it. And put fully synthetic fluids in there. You'll notice the improvement in the transmission right away. You always want those fluids changed after break-in, but very few owners actually do it. Most likely your car never got that done, so it's well overdue, even with not too many miles. Time is another problem with fluids. Six years is a crapload of time. And don't forget the brake fluid. Good luck.
OP: If it is an A6, I would also change out the filter as well. I also like to add two bottles of water wetter to the engine coolant. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=74&pcid=10 Congrats on your new Vet.
The correct part # is 88862624. Yes, that diff fluid will work.
The differential fluid I had recommended has two numbers. 10-4034 and 88862624. AC Delco Dexron LS gear oil 75W-90. Also says on the bottle contains limited slip friction modifier.
