Default How much HP...

Just a quick question: I recently test drove a 2005 C6 6 speed with the Z51 package and the car was ridiculously fast. Turns out it had headers, a cold air intake and upgraded exhaust/mufflers.
My question is: how much horsepower over the stock 400 would this be pushing? The salesman said he drove an '07 Z06 and swore this car was faster. That puts it somewhere around 500 or more.
I can vouch for the speed, on one corner I inadvertantly gave it too much throttle and was sideways before I (and the traction control) knew what happened. Luckily the car straightened itself out just as fast.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I highly doubt it was faster than a Z06. Thats just your sales guy looking to make a sale. With those mods you are looking at 430hp at the crank, maybe 375ish rwhp.

Well if the salesman said so, it must be true.

I agree with the other poster, maybe 375ish at the wheels.

375

I was pulled by a stock C6ZO6 between 100-150 mph and mine has a stroker and running mid tens. The salesman was doing what they do best.

I understand that salesman was doing his best, but this car was wicked fast. I guess I'll have to find someone to let me drive their Z06 so I can decide for myself.
Any takers?

That probably ain't gonna happen, especially after " I inadvertantly gave it too much throttle and was sideways before I (and the traction control) knew what happened". I'm not sure even stability control would be fast enough to counteract that kind of move in a C6 Z06.

Maybe the salesman can grab a C6 Z06 off the lot and you and he can have a drag race "test drive" ?

If you think a lightly modded 2005 C6 LS2 car is wicked fast, a stock C6 Z06 would completely blow your mind

Well wicked fast compared to what? What type of cars are you used to driving? There is no doubt a C6 is extremely quick but if you're coming from 14-15 second cars, then yes a mild bolt on C6 will seem wicked fast.

Stock coupe I ran 12.5 at 115. With 380rwhp almost 450 crank I got that to 11.8@ 119. Stock Zs will go 11.2 @ 125.

The gearing alone in a Z06 makes it faster. When you shift 3-4 with the z51 transmission you drop to 4300rpm, if your plan is highway rolls the coupe has a better gear ratios for that. Z51 is better suited for low speed autocross

With the LS2, you will need a bigger cam and ported intake in addition to those mods, and then you may be a little quicker than a Z06.

Ok guys, I'm not a neophyte here. I've been driving fast cars for many years. My brother built a '67 Camaro to a 468. Anyone know what that is? Anyway, turns out after a little research the car also has a upgraded cam and ported heads as well as the "chip" so the engine computer has been tweaked. So now I wonder...Would the Z06 still be as fast?

Whatever mods the car you drove has the Z06 can have similar mods and be even faster. The bottom line is if you think it's "wicked fast", why do you care what the Z06 can do? They're always be something faster than what you have.

I would also ask yourself what you plan to do with the car. If your goal is stay with simple mods I would find a z06, similar power has that 468 with better gearing, aerodynamics ect. Besides power the z06 has loads of upgrades over the coupe including an aluminum frame.

If your goal is to eventually do a motor swap and go for high hp with boost the coupe will save you on the initial purchase price.

In all you should drive a c6z before deciding. This is a big step, might as well have all the info.
