I'm getting an error on the dash that says "Engine Hot - Shutting off Air Condition"
The thermostat then goes back down to 100 (as if it wasn't working). The engine does not appear to be hot, nor is it smoking, steaming or anything of the sort. I can hear the fans turn on, and they don't go off. Once I turn the car off and turn it back on, all the gauges work. The thermostat goes through it's check, then goes to about 180 before going all the way back down to 100.
I'm taking it to my shop next week anyway, but I'm just curious if anyone has had this happen before.
Sounds to me like the coolant temp. sensor is on it's way out or low coolant with air in the system.( I think you would get a low coolant light ) Don't know what year or mileage but a new QUALITY thermostat is a good piece of mind.
The 160 is common. You will not see true benefit from it unless you reprogram the computer for the fan operations. Good luck on getting your problem fixed and let us know the solution.
Stay with the stock thermostat. ( I think it's a 198 ) From what i have read over the years a 160 will not benefit you at all. Today's Vettes are made to run at a cert in temp. to keep the other sensors happy. So to speak.
