I recently purchased a 2012 Grand Sport and wanted to get a different set of pipes to enrich the sound. I have researched the big brands such as Borla, corsa and magnaflow but none of the sites will let me here what they sound like with the 6.2L LS3 engine. I was wondering if anyone out there has any of these pipes already installed and could give me an idea what kind of sound I might expect, sound clips would be nice but a written opinion is always welcome. If anyone has any other suggestion for a different brand I am not set on any one in particular I just want a nice throaty sound when accelerating around the F1 track here in Bahrain
Tbh you could find all your looking for on YouTube.... But the truth is they all sound the same with very little difference over computer / cell phone speakers. The best way to make that decision is to go to a car show or gathering where you will be around a lot of Vette. Every other corvette owner will have an aftermarket exhaust.
Now as to my experience with exhausts on my c6 nothing has compared to the NPP with a mild to wild switch. When closed it purrs like a kitten with no drone at all. When open it roars, pops and gurgles. The Npp sounds just as good if not better than any other aftermarket exhaust I've heard and trust me I've heard plenty... Best part about It though is that it is stock...
I've been doing the same research for my '12 GS as well. I've found that Borla has some links to videos on their site for each type of exhaust they offer. They also do a nice video with Bondurant where they put all three types of exhaust on the Vettes and demo them.
Aside of that, Corsa, Magnaflow and others that I've found have been on YouTube. As recommended already, I'm going to head to the local Vette gathering to check out some different exhaust options.
I know what NPP is but Im not sure if my car has them, is there a way to check easily to find out. After buying this car I went to chevy site and looked all all the options available and compared to what I have and for the most part it seems they went all out when they ordered this model, in fact it is the only '12 GS in the country of Bahrain. I has a nice sound when im accelerating but the idle sound is kind of lacking from what I want, what kind of mild to wild switch would you recommend if it turns out I already have NPP or after I get them installed??
If you have NPP, just pull the fuse if it's too quiet at idle. You will see valves on the exhaust near the tips and butterflys inside the inner 2 pipes.
Not sure if this will help or not, but here's my car's sound. Built LS3 with custom cam, custom ARH headers and X pipe and some other goodies - and B & B Fusion exhaust with NPP. You can clearly distinguish the valves open/close/open.
Good luck in your search, but I've been extremely happy with B & B products.
I didn't see any butterfly's so I'm guessing I don't have NPP, has anyone here ever just tried to modify the tips of do I need to change the entire muffler set?
Here are a few links to the Stainless Works sound. We know they are not exactly what your asking for but it should give you a good idea of sound. As stated prior, hearing them in person is always best!
the Stainless Works complete exhaust package.... has anyone installed one without having access to a lift? I could probably find a way to get it about 6-7 inches of the ground but we dont have very good access to shops here in Bahrain.
Not impossible, but difficult to do any Cat Back exhaust without a lift/ramps/stands as most require you to take off the intermediate pipe when removing the stock mufflers and over axle pipes. Without the extra room in front of the axle you end up playing roulette with the diffuser in the back, not to mention unless you cut the mufflers off you will have to "snake" out the assembly and will need a couple of inches (below the tire level) to get it out easily without losing your mind.
As for the sound, I initially installed a LM1. Drone was definitely present but manageable with the stick. It did however cause my center dash vent to rattle on acceleration and the fit was terrible. Went over the axle super low and on rough idle or dips in the idle it would rattle on the suspension arm. Plus it didn't line up near center at all on the car. I swapped it out with a Corsa Extreme w/4" tips and it looks and sounds great accelerating and idling. There is very minimal interior noise when cruising on the highway as well. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Regarding your question if you have NPP or not. Check your 2 inner exhaust pipes. If you have butterfly valves that open or close based on throttle, then you have it. I didn't have it on my 09 so I went with Corsa Sport. I like it better then NPP. It's def a different type of sound, more exotic. It's very throttle sensitive and gets much louder in rpm range. Plus you can hear the "good sounds" inside the car as well. I was driving behind a grand sport last night and heard it decel. It gurgled and crackled somehwat, but not even close to my Corsa. try to hear it in person. Good luck.
