Default Replacing Oil Sending Unit

I have a 2002 small block and the oil guage sensor is bad. Has anyone replaced this WITHOUT removing the intake manifold ?. The sending unit is located at the back of the block, on top behind the intake manifold. I know the steps to do it by removing the intake but I'd like to know if it can be done without doing all that.

R&R the intake only takes about an hour, why risk it? It may not be worth taking the chance.

Not sure on the 02 , but on the C6's , there is a method where you drill the cowl in the wiper area above the sender. Try search in C5 tech.

Default Heard about this

I read that a member removed the oil sending unit and installed an elbow in the hole moving the oil sending unit back enough so if and when the unit goes Kaput,he could remove it with a socket wrench.I read this thread quite a while back, but I don't remember how long ago.The fellow that did the mod said the mod worked great and saves you much time by removing just the sending unit.
