My best friend mentioned this to me after my first track experience. would an after market torque converter get more of the power to the ground and increase my 1/4 mile time? With the CAI, magna flow mufflers and a custom tune (along with changing the shift points) I was able to get about a 12.3 and my reaction time could have been better. I'm hoping to get into the really high 11's (11.98) would be fine with me. I know betters tires would help, just wondering if the torque converter would help that much?
Everything is dependant on traction. If you can hook it up, an aftermarket torque converter will get you off the line much faster and should get you into the 11's without much problem. The CAI and tune will help too.
I have a Pro Torque 2800 stall, a 3.42 diff plus a tune and booster from Chuck CoW (plus a couple of other things) in my A6 and the car is a beast. Fun as hell to drive.

A hi stall T/C is the best bang for the buck on an automatic vette excluding NOS. The Yank SS3200 or SS3600 along with 3.42 or 3.73 gears is the way to go. Drag radials will definately be needed to hook up. 11s will be no problem at all.

Since you haven't filled out your profile and didn't mention anything else about your car or when/where you ran, it's hard to respond to that question.
Complete the profile, then come back here with other details, so we understand the issue better.
Yep. CF changed the default to messages recently and I missed it.
Since you have a 4-speed auto, it's better to have someone with that tranny make the call on a converter. It'll definately make a difference, but the brand and stall are too important to overlook.
Dennis50nj is a leading expert, so maybe he'll chime in.

Considering that you have a A4, Cai and a tune, 12.3x is a very good time on the stock tires. Do you know if you have the optional 3.15 gears or the stock 2.73s.
I imagine your sixty foot was about 1.9x. Yes a higher than stock torque converter with a set of drag radials should put you into the 11s. There are many ways to get to that 11 second time slip.
Have you ever driven a auto with a higher than stock stall ?
These are excellent questions I will bring up to MTI when I see them next week. The shift point change they did has my car behaving like a manual just about which is great. It has been over 2 months now so when I get the car back it will probably feel scary. Great options I will explore.

My car has an A4 tranny. A Yank SS3200 or SS3600 with 3.42 or 3.73 gears is the way to go with an A4.
Yeah, sounds a little risky because this is my daily driver. I will probably just stay content with my power for now and look at some sort of mod later down the line. Thanks for all the help though!

There are many of us with 3200+ converters on the street everyday.
My '08 got a 3200 at 55K, then swapped to a 3600 at 71K, and is now at 99K. DD plus road trip car. Certainly not a garage queen.
We like the "CoW PRO TORQUE 2800 12 CONVERTER" for the street

It's the best of both worlds. Performs really well and doesn't have any "CONVERTER SIDE EFFECTS".
You hardly know it's there when you're taking it easy....
