I got in the vette to drive to work and the A/C was only blowing warm air. I drove to an auto parts store and bought a can of 134a with a gauge on it. I thought that with the gauge I could see how much pressure was on the low side. I started the car and check the pressure it was a little low so I add a little freon. The A/C had started to blow cold air again before I had added any of the freon. So I added more to try and get the pressure up to normal. Well the pop off valve blew some of the freon out. I guess the gauge was wrong. So I drove to work with no more problems. In the morning when I got off of work the same thing happened, no cold air. Even when I set the a/c to 60 degrees it will not blow cold. I had to stop at walmart to pick up some things and when I started the car, it blew cold air again. Anyone have any suggestions as to what may cause this on again off again with the A/C ? It's getting pretty hot in Houston and I want to get this taken care of without getting bent over by the stealerships. Thanks
Next time you drive the car for the first time after it has been sitting all night, take a look at the outside temperature reading. If it got cool overnight where you are, it does take a few miles of driving before that outside temp sensor will give you the current outside temperature.
The climate control unit does use that temperature, as well as your cabin temperature to "decide" what part of the climate control system to turn on.
2005 Corvettes came overfilled with Freon from the factory - the high pressure switch cuts the compressor out when pressure gets too high. Normally that only happens on really hot days though...
There is a Technical Service Bulletin, your dealership may or may not cover it...the TSB specifies to take out the freon and add back in a lesser amount (you could also try letting some out although that not an environmentally friendly thing to do).

Thanks for the responses. When I bought the car I had the dealership in Phoenix look at the car and they did a service on the steering column that had not been done. They told me that all service bulletins had been done to the car. When I drove the car home temps ran 110 to 115 out in west texas and I had no problems with the a/c. Now 11 months later I am experiencing an intermitent problem with it not blowing cold. I have noticed that when I first start up the car and push the interior circulation button, the a/c comes on right away. I have only done this the last 2 days so I will keep doing it until it won't come on at all. I guess then I will have to get bent over by the stealership. Thanks for the info guys...

On my 2012 GS, it's the opposite: every time I turn A/C on, even manually, the stupid recirc button lights up. Another annoying quirk, like the rev-hang . But doesn't sound right. On auto yes, but not on manual mode. Oh well. Good luck with your issue.

I wish the recirc light would come on when the auto is on. The fan blows harder and conditions the air inside the car better ad faster. I haven't had this problem in a few days so I still crossing my fingers and hope it doesn't come back.
So its been a week and a half and its still working fine. I guess a gremilin got in a/c system for a little bit and now it gone. WTF. Time will tell. Thanks for the help.
