Woah. I have no idea what it is, but I'd be a little concerned for sure.

Looks like a spring from one of your valve seals.

They wrap around the top as seen in this pic:

Yes it is. I was thinking it might be a valve seal spring but I honestly have no idea. The car doesnt smoke or burn oil. I'm currently out of town, but as soon as I get back I plan to pull the plugs and check for oil residue on them.

Yep, looks like a valve seal spring. I'd pull the valve covers and take a look to find the culprit.

Easy fix if that's all it is. What are the bets it's an exhaust valve.

I purchased the car used and I'm not sure if the 06Z came with a magnetic plug or if it was added by the previous owner.

I know it might be a PITA, but should I drop the pan to check for more debris? It might be overkill, but I would def feel better about it.

I suspect it's time to check for excessive valve guide and valve stem wear, particularly on the exhaust side. When the valves start moving around a lot it has a tendency to tear up the seals. Make sure you also check all the springs.

The ealry cars had the magnetic drain plugs. I think they changed to a non magnetic plug sometime within the 2008 run. My very early built 2009 Z06(built June 2008) did not have the magnetic drain plugs, so I went with the aftermarket ones on my first oil change.

I just did my first oil change on my 2012 1LT, I don't think the plug is magentic. I should have picked one up before the oil change. Good call on the spring, I wouldn't have figured that out.
