I lowered the shifter boot on my '11 GS manual to see how the **** attaches, and now I can't get it back on. I see there is an O-ring that fits over the boot material and is supposed to fit into a groove on the bottom of the ****. How do I get it back in there? Do I need to remove the whole console cover? Crap.
You don't need to remove the console. But do check some console removal threads/tutorials to see pics of the shifter boot being removed. Essentially there's 4 clips at approx 10, 2, 5 & 7 o'clock, if 12 oclock is pointing forwards, attached to a flexible plastic inner ring.
You simply hold the boot material tightly & gently pull inwards from the outer console bezel & you'll see them pop out & also how they clip back in. Once you unlcip all 4 clips, you can pull the boot up & over the shifter to get the o-ring seated again.
