Overspeed warning buzzer
I bought my 2006 C6 convertible in Dubai some five years ago. In Dubai the cars have an overspeed warning buzzer, that sounds every time you exceed 75mph or 120kph. A couple of years ago I bought the car back to England where I now use it now as well as alot in France. When driving in a spirited manner, the buzzer is always going on and off. Is there any way this can be disabled? My UK Corvette Specialist has had a go but without success.
Since US/Canadian cars don't have the buzzer, there must be a way to eliminate it. The only questions are "How" and "How Expensive"?
Here in the US, my first step would be to see if a dealer can program the buzzer out with a Tech 2, or whatever the current tuning tool is. Can you find a GM service facility with all the correct tools and access to the online GM manuals?
EDIT:
If the buzzer is a completely separate piece, you might be able to simply disconnect the wires. But most audible warnings in the C6 come through the normal speaker system, harder to eliminate.

Define 'buzzer'. I think all Corvettes in the US have that overspeed warning, and a chime sounds when you exceed it, but I don't think it's constant. I disabled it the first day I drove the car, so can't tell you how it works for sure. It's a programmable feature under 'option' (right-hand side of DIC buttons). Did you try that? It's nice when you don't want to (or can't) use cruise control, and don't want to risk a ticket . Good luck.

No buzzer or chime on our 2006 up to 165 mph.
No buzzer or chime on our 2009 up to 155 mph.
If you can find me a better road, I'll check the higher speeds for you.
I can't find anything in the DIC or the manual about a speed warning or buzzer.

So we don't have it? I could swear the Vette had it. Most of the cars I've bought in the last few years had that feature, but since I never use it, I have an excuse to be confused . Sorry for the brain fart folks .

Overspeed Warning Buzzer
Gearhead Jim:- thanks, you are right, there must be a way, its just how! There is only one UK official Corvette dealer some 300 miles away, but my local specialist Dart Corvette have the software to interogate the computer but without success. Other cars I had in the Middle East, I was able to snip the wire to a small speaker or put gum over the speaker but on the C6 the buzzer/chime comes through the audio system.
ELP JC:- you are correct, its a chime not a buzzer. They say that the USA and UK are two countries separated only by a common language!! I have re-tried the Option button without success.
All current cars sold in the United Arab Emirates/Dubai by law have to have this warning chime, on most Japanese rubbish its relatively easy to disable, good old Corvette seem to have taken the law seriously and made it very difficult to disable. I suppose the ultimate fix is to replace the car's computer with a US spec one. I am reluctant to do this I have other cars demanding money for restoration!
If the official Corvette dealer 300 miles away really knows how to fix the problem, that could be a nice road trip. But I'd want to talk with them enough to know they really can do the job, not just give it a try.
BTW, I think that a new computer to eliminate the chime might need to be programmed with your VIN, and then it might install the chime program. That would be a bummer!
Did you ever get this resolved OP.... I'm living in DXB and my C6 also has the chime at 120kph.
i'm not worried about the chime, but it removes all information from the DiC for the entire time you're over 120kph meaning it's not possible to monitor tyre pressures etc.
I actually think it's a safety issue and would love to get it removed.

Good luck on this one.
I think he would be alright with that since he is no longer located where the chime is required so it wouldn't be set up for it.
I would be more concerned about which module is the chime coming from?

I would guess that if you hit the reset button on the DIC, the warning will go away and let you see other info. This is the way it works with every other DIC warning.

As I'm not a complete moron this was the first thing I tried!!
Pressing the reset button has no effect on this warning, the message remains for the entire time that the car is travelling at more than 120km/h
Even more stupid is the fact that it still does this in competitive driving mode, so on the track you cannot monitor anything other than what appears on the HuD / analogue gauges.
With a TECH2 you should be able to change the "country" settings in the BCM (body control module). Does the car have European lighting and headlight washers?
