Sounds like a dead battery or a loose connection on the battery.
Not trying to hi jack this thread, but my brand new Grand Sport has been in the garage for about 3 months. I didnt do the right thing and start it every now and then. So I went to start it the other day and nothing. Battery was dead. So I pulled my other car around and tried to jump it, with the cables hooked up my vette showed 12.5 volts, and when I went to start it, it started tapping, like the starter gear tapping against the fly wheel. Does this still sound like a weak or dead battery.
The clicking you hear is because the battery doesn't have enough voltage to turn over the engine, and jumping it with another battery won't cut it. Remove the battery and fully charge it. If that doesn't do it, have the battery load tested. It may not fully charge or hold a full charge again. If you're gonna leave a car for that long, get a Tender or C-tek on it. I don't leave mine off the Tender for longer than a day or two. Never had any battery issues.

What do you do in the event that youre traveling and wont have access to a tender/charger?
You know, today drove my car and for the second time since I bought it a few months ago, didn't start on the first push. Heard a weird, faint noise behind the dash, that lasted like a second. First time I was told it could have been interference of some kind. I was below power lines. Not this time. Just finished filling up the tank, and no go. Started right away the second time, so I doubt it's the battery, but it could be somewhat weak since car sat for over 5 months at selling dealer. It was fully charged before using the car, however. Battery might be weak since they never fully recover for months of being discharged. Might have to replace it sooner rather than later.
Can you describe your 'clicking', and how long it took before stopping? In your case it obviously was the battery, but am curious if the clicking due to not enough juice sounds like. By the way, you need to allow a few minutes for the battery to get some charge when jumping it before attempting to start the car. And you should jump it from the hood's '+' terminal, but grounding the -'- is tricky due to no negative post. Where did you ground it?
Finally, NEVER start the engine to charge the battery. If you're not going to drive the car at least 15 miles, don't start it. Just charge the battery with a BT+ or CTEK. I personally never leave them connected, even though they're designed for that. Good luck man.
I have an '08 with about 26,000 miles on it....had the same thing happen just over a month ago...checked the voltage on the battery and it did NOT show it was low...eliminated so many other things and then went back to the battery...bought a Yellow top...put it in...loe and behold....it WAS the battery...no issues since....
Sitting definitely kills the batteries as the computer systems are still live even with the car shut off. I understand the fob sensor is in the door and that you should always keep the fob in your left pocket. It is pretty range sensitive. I had a couple of clicking situations before I read about this. No problems since. Our car never gets a chance to cool off so dead battery is NEVER a problem. A battery tender seems to be a must for long term storage. We'll be using one over the winter.

If you regularly drive your vehicle you don't need to tender/charge. Mine will happily sit 3 weeks and start right up. I normally drive it at least once or twice a week - short drives, maybe 10 miles a time plus longer trips once or twice per annum. I'm on my second battery now after the first lasted 7 years. So keeping the battery alive is not really an issue.

Basically same thing for me except mine only lasted 4 years...but I have left it for 3-4 weeks on occasion in the winter here in NY and she started right up...this was the first time I had any battery issues...
I'm talking about a quiet clicking noise that sounds like it is coming from the push button when you press it or when you step on the brake.

Yep, mine does this. It sounds like the contacts chattering. I just got my car and thought it was just normal. Battery voltage is good but that doesn't mean diddly sometimes. Hate to throw down $200 a good battery. Guess I will put charger on battery and see with extra juice if it still does it. If It is not normal I would guess we are slowly burning up contacts on the starter button.

The clicking when depressing the starter button is the various relays clicking into action...
So you are saying this is normal?
Anything that can be done to eliminate it?
Just doesn't sound right to me.

Just to be clear...in normal operation when starting the car with no battery issues etc...there is a clicking noise that can be heard when depressing the start button just as the starter engages and this is normal...if thats what you are talking about you should be all good

That's exactly what I've experienced the 2 times I mentioned. Mine is a manual, so I obviously have the clutch pedal depressed before hitting the start button. But when I do, just that weird clicking for a second or so, and starter doesn't engage. Didn't see any messages on the DIC. Maybe the battery is weak, even though it was fully charged before using the car. But why does it start perfectly a few seconds later? And this is a '12 GS with 2K miles. Maybe I need to press the button until the starter engages? Could that be it? Maybe I hit it too quickly.

So you are pressing it and it doesnt start then you need to depress it again and it starts?
