Just got done installing AR headers on my Z06, and the car will not start. I took the starter off during the install, and now, the relays click, the starter does not engage or click. Also, when I hit the start button, the guages and everything goes dead for about 5 seconds, then comes back on?
My first thought was I wired the starter back up wrong, and I could have. The ground that is on the block beside the starter, does it have one wire grounded to it, or two? Does the top stud on the starter just have one wire to it? I'm thinking maybe I got that mixed up, and grounded the smaller wire to the block instead of putting it back on the starter??
I was not paying the best of attention when I took it off, so it serves me right if that's the problem. Any other ideas? Thanks for the help!!
Thanks for the link, i did see it earlier tho. That's the way I have it wired, the large ground and the small wire grounded to the block, and the the one wire to the top post of the starter. The dic says "hot engine, ac turned off" after pushing the start button?? Is they're a safety no start mode or something?
When you removed the starter, you should have removed the positive battery cable nut and then removed the positive cable terminal and engine harness leads from the solenoid. Then you should have removed the S terminal nut which allows removal of the purple wire lead from the solenoid. You should have then dropped the starter. The two grounds remain attached to the engine block. Replacement should have been the reverse of the procedure.

Thanks for the diagram and info. I had it hooked up right, which is why I'm confused.
So, when I hit the start button, I hear a click, I'm by myself so I don't what is clicking. All the gauges go dead for 5 seconds, then I hear another click, and the gauges come back on. Totally lost here!! All connections are good, grounds are good. Any ideas?
Ok, the starter works, I took it off, my dad hit the start button, and it engages and turns. I put it back on, and got the same results, no start, all the gauges go dead for 5 seconds or so, then come back on. Clueless!!!
Battery is not dead, it's new, plus, I put it on the charger last night just in case. After doing some searching, it looks like several folks have gotten those codes when the starter goes bad.
So I took the starter and had it tested, they said it was no good. When I tested it on the car, I had it hooked up to the harness and power wire, it engaged and spun very slowly. When bolted to the car, it only clicks.
I checked the cam sensor plug and it was fine, no wires damaged or anything. The crank positioning sensor on the front of the motor looked fine and unharmed as well.
I've been to 4 parts stores and no one can get me a starter, all warehouses are out!!
Oh, also, I reset the codes in the ECM as well with my handheld, and they immediately came back when pressing the ignition.

Try Gene at GMpartshouse.com. He can probably ship you one quickly.
I found one thru the local caddy dealer, gm part for 300 bucks. Chevy dealer wanted 480. I'll have it by noon tomm, and hopefully, a car that starts!!!
Thanks Sub, I'll chime in later when it's on. Just got home and gonna wait til it cools down a bit, but I'm praying to the car Gods that this takes care of it.
