I have muffler deletes on my 2009 c6 that the muffler shop made up for me and with a 6 speed manual it sounds mean as hell and absolutely zero and I mean zero drone. The best $70.00 I had spent yet!!

I completely agree. It does sound as quiet as a Saturn. This is by far the quietest vehicle I've ever had. I picked up an SLP LM1 and god I hope it makes a difference. If not I'm headers are next sooner than latter this year. A co-workers v6 mustang has more sound than my vette. I just don't think it could ever get too loud. My daily driver is L92 Denali with Dynatechs, highflow cats and a cherrybomb 3.5 SI/SI before the rear tire. That's loud. My vette, needs to be louder than that. I almost removed the stock axel back and drove like that but it seems it would look weird without the tips.
funny you say that. My Dailey driver is a lifted 2008 black on black GMC sierra 1500. It's got 1 cherry bomb on it. I'm going crazy with how quiet this car is. Lord help me. I'm taking it in tomorrow hopefully they can nock this out. What's crazy is cut outs before the exhaust gave me a 20 HP gain. So why wouldn't it be similar in this situation. I highly doubt it's only a 5 to 6 HP gain. At least 10 to 15. I hear you don't want any back pressure at all. It's a myth that you need it. Don't take my word for it though.( Just heard that from a well known mechanic)
Hi,,, To lots of folks, race cars must be offensive for most have no mufflers or a least a very small resonator type that hardly does anything but is required. Those cars are being driven full bore the entire race and are very loud indeed. For what people deem to be offensive sound , others including myself hear it as quite pleasant and not offensive at all. Straight pipes on a street car are not driven, (usually) , with the throttle mashed to the floor boards every two seconds. So that being said ,muffler delete pipes on a C6Z sound awesome with no drone and you ditch about 50 Lbs off the back end if that's important. A before and after test was evaluated and the car picked up RWHP with no further tuning changes running no mufflers. It turns the system into a true three inch exhaust . The less back pressure the better for performance is the myth exposed .So when you see the popo let off and go into cloak mode like they do when they approach the decibel meter on track lol. everyone.
In my opinion go with a good set of longtubes, X pipe and NPP exhaust. On my LS2 I went with the Kooks 1 7/8 Longtubes, 3 inch X pipe and Z06 Mufflers with the muffler mod completed on it and it sounds amazing!!!! I did the whole muffler delete on one of my C5s years ago and I didn't like the way it sounded with stock manifolds at all. I installed some American Racing headers on it and it was a night and day difference. I will take the car out tomorrow for some vids and I will post them up. Jay
Heres a video of the same exact setup that I have except I don't think he did the muffler mod to it..
It has serious drone in the car at all RPM's and it gains no power.
If you liked it on a CTS then you will likely be fine with it on a covette. Im just trying to keep people from making the swap and then going back to a NPP exhaust after they had enough drone on the hiway. Its your money.
The guys that are claiming they have drone must be doing something wrong because myself and several others have none at all and yes I know what drone is because I have had several muscle cars with it.
The Z06 has 3" pipe up to the last inch before the muffler. It necks down to 2.5" to enter the muffler and the pipe at the muffler exit is an actual 2.31" OD on the butterfly valve side and 2.18" OD on the quiet side.
The NPP has 2.5" all the way into the muffler, but also has the same exit.
It's been a while since I cut off some of the base tips, but I'd suspect they would also use the 2.18" OD pipe for the muffler exit.
..........it's been mentioned numerous times here.....
