Well the reason I did it was do go to the larger intake inlet on the K&N FIPK. I picked up 11 to the tire with just the intake swap and LS7 maf.
Its worth it if you're switching intakes also. You wont see much from just a maf change.
I went from this intake, LS2 style:
to this intake, notice the larger outlet on the filter and covers the filter outlet basically all the way across:

I run an LS3 MAF with my 103 Halltech. Works good so far.

I gained 17 rwhp when I switched over from the stock MAF on my LS2 to a LS3/LS card style MAF and the 90mm Halltech air bridge. The Halltech filter would not fit, so I had to use the K&N.

You need the sensor itself, a housing for it ( CAI), wiring harness adapter and tune. The newer MAF has a much broader range, 12.5 kHz vs. 5 kHz. With no tune, the ECU thinks the motor is getting about half the air it's actually pulling in and will cut fuel accordingly. Car will run like crap or not at all. Tune is a must before driving it...

I know this is a old thread but i am doing this now. Can you just use the stock z06 maf tables to get this running ok?

I am sure that is exactly what you do in the tune.
