Default Brakes?

Just finished up at the dealer who I have been taking my car to since I purchased new (late 08). Evidently, I have to tell them what type of service I needed and me telling them, do what needs to be done wasn't sufficient to keep it in fine running order. Supposedly they have only ever done a "3000 mile" checkup instead of the "6000 mile" checkup.

My brakes started making a noise a couple of weeks ago and so I called up and made an appointment. As it turns out they have never checked my brakes and now all 4 rotors are scored beyond repair.

Anyway, what are my options? Is there a no brainer upgrade or should I just replace with stock? I don't do any racing as these brake pads lasted just under 28K miles.

I have an auto '09 Z51.

Hello,

I would just replace with OEM parts in your case, they are the most cost effective unless you plan to do the work yourself. If you decide to save some Dealer Cost $$'s and fix the brakes yourself you should check out GMPartsdirect.

Check out GM Parts House or Parts Taxi as well. GM Parts Direct has some high shipping charges at times that defeats their lower prices.

Do what I did on the front so far...

The rears still are good for a while and will do the same when needed...

Put on the Z51 rotors with the standard C6 pads.... will be easier on your rotors and pads are cheaper to replace compared to the rotors even if the pad life is the same...

Hope you get it fixed to your satisfaction. However, I can't help but wonder why you did not keep better tabs on the car yourself? Don't depend on someone else to make sure your car is in good shape.

Thanks for all of the responses.

I was planning on replacing the parts myself, I haven't done brakes on a newer car but figured it couldn't be too bad.

As ashamed as I am, I just didn't notice that the brake pads were getting thin, I thought they would last much longer than they did. With the false assumption that the dealership was doing their job, I just missed it. I'm a fairly busy guy and since I bought this car, it has been turnkey, I haven't had to check on anything. It is my ultimately my fault. I use the car as a driver, not as a show car so I am not paying nearly the attention that most on here give their cars.

VictorF - Let me know how your schedule looks, I will send you a PM with my info. Thanks for the offer! I still need to pick up some brake pads.

When I did my brakes, at about 40K the rotors where pretty well shot, less than .002 left. I upgraded to DBA4000 from KNS. A little more expensive but I really don't like Drilled rotors. I would also go to ceramic pads. Less dust to worry about.
