I'm a noob only had car a week it's absolutely stock nothing at all done its a 05 coupe auto base car ..I'm going to Bristol street fights on sept 6 and looking for advise on what mode as far as traction control competive mode etc any other advise on car would be helpful I had a 03 cobra with 500 whp so I'm not new to power or drag racing just new to vettes any tips I would appreciate it thnks
when i was at the drag strip last weekend i held the traction control button down for 6 seconds or so and turned everything off. i like being in full control and thats how i ran best times. i think competitive mode works as well because i dont believe it kicks the tc in if you are spinning at all in a straight line. i have a '12 grand sport with bolt ons/tune and its a manual.
Any way to turn the traction control off permanently? One thing for sure, if you get into wheel hop, back out of it. Even strong parts break if the wheel hop gets violent enough. On Youtube you can hear it when some cars are racing. More than a few Chevelle 12 bolt rearend housing got broken this way back in the day.
I have an 05 (A4) with 3.15 rear gears, , mods are a Vararam CAI, Tune, Kooks Headers...and Drag Radials..
I've been drag racing Corvettes since 1996 (C4) then and my C6 now.. I only push the Traction Control button once real quick (1 sec) to turn OFF the TC .. I leave the rest on, (But when I had the car tuned they "Cartek" removed the "Torque Control" so I just hit the TC button once and do my burn out... I've run a best of 11.98 @ 117 mph...
I tried what was suggested (holding the button down 5 full sec) to turn everything OFF.. but NEVER got any improvement in my ET..
Just remember if you start to spin INSTANTLY LET OFF THE GAS .. remember if you spin the run is a waste, and you only risk fishtailing into the wall... better to let off, & have a good car for the next run

This is so true.
If you want better performance, consider doing the "free cold air mod". It can make quite a difference.
These cars pull timing starting at 86 degrees inlet air temp...and pull 12 degrees at 125 or so (from memory). I've scanned 147 IAT in the staging lanes. They will pull 1/2 the commanded timing which is a lot of horsepower left on the table.
