Default Shifter: Not enough centering force

Hello. Sweden calling

Car: C6 2008 LS3 Z51 MN6
9 thousand miles

Problem:Not enough shifter centering force, when pulling out the gear shifter from 5th or 6th gear, it stays there (between 5 and 6) instead of "jumping" to the correct neutral position which is between 3rd and 4th.
It's the factory shifter and have had the problem since the car was new.
Ps. I tried to find an answer on the forum with no result.
Best regards
A.J.

I don't have an answer for you but your problem is not normal. My 09(same TR6060 transmission as yours) snaps into the 3-4 gate no problem from 1-2 and 5-6. Possibly your shifter mechanism needs adjusting or is binding. Probably going to require someone to tear into it to find the problem.

Put an MGW short shifter in it. You won't regret it. Also put a new GM shifter box in it at the same time (about $160). Shifter box mount bushings and shift rod seals deteriorate with heat and shred over about 36 months and are notorious for causing shifter problems. A new box comes with new seals and mounts. The seals can't be purchased by themselves, although the mounts are available through some vendors; but I think it's better just to replace the whole box when you put the new shifter in.

centering of the shifter is a function of the trans, not the shifter. search for :Anti-Venom 6 Speed Shifter Modification:

that mod is done to make it easier to shift and reduce the center, maybe someone messed with yours

Very possible.

Here's a thread about doing the mod on an '08. Read the text carefully. Good luck, hope it's this easy.

Definitely not normal. Did you buy your car new? Some people shim the spring on the tranny because they think it's too strong. That could have been done to your car if you bought it used. If bought new, something wasn't right since day 1. And you already have the newer TR6060 tranny, although it got some improvements in later years. Do a search to see where the bolt with the spring is, and check it out. It could be broken. If not, then it's going to be a lot more work (and disassembly) to see what's wrong. If car is still under factory warranty, I'd start there. Good luck, and please keep us posted.

One thing you could do is pull the console cover and the shifter to see if there is any reason the shift shaft that runs alongside the transmission is binding. It could be something as simple as lubricating something. You can't see much through the hole in the floor but it will at least give you a place to start that is easy to get to and inspect. Does it hang up just going from the 5-6 gate to center or does it hang up when going from the 1-2 gate to center? How about from the center to the two other gates, is it hard to move there as well? With the stock shifter you should be able to move the shifter with two fingers and the palm/heel of your hand with very little pressure with the shifter springing to the neutral position in the center gate as soon as you pull it out of 1, 2, 5 or 6.

Thank you everyone for your help.

ELP JC: Yes, i bought it brand new.
Bill: From 1-2 gate to center works perfect. 5-6 gate to center is the problem.

Most of the time it centers after a few seconds of delay by itself but not allways.
During the warranty time they changed e few things in the shifter area, (i think the whole thing once) but it was done because of rattle and vibrations in 3rd gear and full acceleration.

You might say i don't have a big problem and i igree but it's irritating.
Anyways i will talk to them again and tell them about the information i got from you and i will post the result here.
Thank you again everyone and sorry cuz i havn't answered you one by one.
