Gents i recently purchased a set of used LG headers for a Z06, has the full 3" x pipe. Most of the systems I see have the 2.5 over the axle pipes that mate to the x pipe. I was looking for another used set up, would the 2.5" pipe be a bottle neck? An adverse perfromance vs buying a new Z06 axle back?

To use a 2.5" (C6) axleback you'll have to cut/weld to fit it. A stock Z06 axleback will bolt on with no changes (and no loss or gain of power). Lots of used Z06 axlebacks form $300 and up.
IT is accepted that stepping down the pipe size as far back as the axle over joint will have little effect on flow. The gases have cooled sufficiently. This is why long tubes work so well, close to the engine and the gases are expanded.
I CAN OFFER NO PROOF, just what I have put together reading many articles.
