Hi all. I'm going to be buying a '10+ base coupe by the end of the month. Even though the 16/26 mpg is great, having it even higher is greatER lol. Has anybody seen any gains from a CAI in fuel economy or is it not worth the 300-400 dollars. Also, has anybody installed a throttle body. BBK makes great parts (had one on my srt10) and I know they make a 95mm and 102mm throttle body for the LS3 corvette. Has anybody installed either size and if so have you seem any improvements (response or economy?). Ill probably purchase the 95 if anything. If nobody has tried this product out, I guess I'll just be the one to have to test it, it's only $700 for the TB and an intake

The best way to get good fuel ecomony would be to watch your RPM's, use cruise control when possible, & stay out of stop & go traffic. The $ spent on the intake and throttle body would buy you a lot of fuel for the year. Also if you do get an intake and throttle body installed, a tune may be needed, which may have negative impact on your warranty if you still have one.
BBK claims a gain of 11hp and 14 ft lbs of torque from the 95mm on the factory tune. Plus I've never heard of a CAI needing a tune. Is this how the vettes work?

A lot of times with small mods the car will readjust such as intake or exhaust, but if you want to get the HP/TQ out of your mods then a tune is recommend. I would contact a tuner that you trust and see what they say. I do not want to give you bad or wrong information. If you have a TB installed then that may affect you air to fuel ratio, which may need to be remapped via a tune. What state do you live in?
THE LARGE BBK TB IS A WASTE WITH THE STOCK INTAKE MANIFOLD AS THE TB BLADE IS LARGER THEN THE OPENING IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WHICH WOULD THEN CREAT TURBULANT AIR.
FOR THE CAI HALLTECH IS THE BEST WAY TO GO. WE SELL SEVERAL DIFFERENT BRANDS OF INTAKES, BUT MY PERSONAL CAR HAS A HALLTECH ON IT.
RIGHT NOW WE ARE DOING THE HALLTECH UNITS FOR $469.99 SHIPPED WITH A FREE K&N RECHERGE KIT FOR THE FILTER.
Just a tune alone should increase mpg as the factory tunes are generally always on the rich end.
I've always been under the impression that any tune has negative effect on fuel economy...plus I'm looking to keep my warranty. Are there any tunes that are really safe and easily reversed (so the dealer won't be able to tell) or should I just wait a few years and do the tune when the warranty expires. I mean, the stock 430hp is PLENTY for me, I'm used to driving a heavy 2.5 ton srt10(ram) w/550 and a 09 charger srt8(6.1 not 6.4) which has a CAI, full exhaust and tune and even the charger doesn't come anywhere near the vette in terms of any performance (though the srt8 is an awesome cruiser..drove it to Vegas a few times and it was a better ride than my old 96 Cadillac fleetwood). I just would like to get an extra few mpg... I figured the CAI would be the cheapest way...seeing as an exhaust system runs over a grand( asked the muffler guy I always go to and he quoted me at 1900... Custom 3" cat back)
Not necessarily true.. (tune dropping fuel economy). I am now running 465/433 rwhp/rwtq. All motor, no boost. Cam/Intake/Headers/Ported TB/CAI... and TUNED very well with HPTuners. My car makes tremendous torque all the way down to 1500 rpm. At 2000 rpm, I'm just under 350 lbft. At 70 mph, the car floats down the road (1700 rpm). I get 30 mpg cruising... all day. Make sure your tuner takes care of the VE tables with ANY changes to the air/fuel mixture (better flow or bigger injectors). You'l be very happy with the results. My A/F ratio is set at average of 12.5, so slightly lean, but absolutely no issue with knock and smooth to 6200 rpm.
I dont think there is any hiding a tune any more, even if you go back to stock. They have time stamps or something I guess. But I just had warranty work on my transmission and they knew I had a tune and could see the headers and still did it under warranty. Ive had my last 4 cars with mods and they always did things under warranty. This time was rebuilding my tranny so that was a good bit of $$$$$$ they saved me. Just depends.
Some intakes make the air turbulant and cause some issues if not tuned. Cant remeber which one it was but a search could probably find it. Unles you plan on doing high speed runs at the track IMO I wouldnt by a $400+ CAI just for regular driving as they dont really come into play till you are hitting high speeds and ramming the air in.
By the way, why does GM only say like 21 or whatever they say for highway when we get like 30 - 32 at the speed limit?

forum venders sell em for less and fit perfect. Or you could just cut out the old muffler and weld a new one in that flows better and sounds better for a couple hundred.

I am at 1500 RPM's at 70 MPH with the RPM Diff 2.56 & A6 Trans, what Diff do you have?

Tuning the MAF and VE transfer tables will give you increased fuel economy and horsepower. The fuel economy gains, in my case, were noticeable, the HP, somewhat. RE your warranty, talk to your dealer. I've had my car at dealers in LA and on the east coast. Most service managers overlook the tune unless it's radical and there are major bolt-ons. The LS3 breathes rather well and an air filter change will most likely bring on lean condition requiring a tune. My recommendations would be 1) K&N or equivalent filter, 2) ported intake and, 3) a ZO6 exhaust system swap and then a tune. You could probably get this all done for about a grand and gains of 30-40 RWHP and fuel economy at 30MPG on the highway. These are the changes I made and they work well.
