Default C6 oil usage?

My C6,50K miles, mods include cam, Vararam and A/R headers, never raced, very seldom above 5000 rpm, is using 5 quarts of oil(Mobile1 Syn) in 5000 miles. Seem normal? what should I look for?

What? Do you say your adding 5 quarts in 5000 miles?
1 qt per 1000?

My 2006 LS2 coupe uses no oil in 7500 miles. It is stock except for a few cosmetic mods and a Z06 full exhaust system. Your usage seems a little high to me.

One quart per 1,000 miles used to be normal but now days it's not normal. Most C6 owners report adding no oil between oil changes. I change mine once a year at around 3,000 and never add oil.

I'd be looking for a different car or for whoever did the mods for you.

If you don't push the car toward the engine performance limits often, you've spent way too much for so little enjoyment. It sounds like you could be satisfied with less power.

I assume someone else did the mods, due to your question. So that's where I'd start asking the question. You obviously have a problem with that excessive oil use.

Definitely not normal......presuming you've already checked for external oil leaks, you've got to be burning oil past the rings or valve stem seals. First thing I'd do is pull the plugs & looks for oil fouling.

I don't see how those mods would directly cause oil consumption, and you aren't flogging the car. Something is wrong, but how badly wrong? And what will happen if you just keep pouring in more oil?
How long ago were the mods done, and when did the oil consumption go up?

Our stock LS3 burns so little oil it's hard to tell, about 1 qt per 24k miles except that I change it much sooner. Our LS2 was similar.

OP's situation is pretty extreme for sure!

Also interesting to note often in these forum, so many people claimed their car don't burn any oil after XXXX miles. They failed to realized all internal combustion engine consumes oil when running, will have lube oil past the rings or valve stem seals to some degree and burned through the combustion process. Some experienced more or less certainly, for sure what is lost is measurable, unless their dip stick is lying to them!

but the actual useage would be a small amont if you are seeing very little if any
movement of the oil level on the dip stick after xxxx miles!

a lot of LS engines use oil between oil changes. for warranty purposes GM would consider 1 quart per 1300 miles acceptable. have seen them use 1 quart every 500 miles to 125,000miles any not get any worse.

1 quart every 500 miles!! That would mean at 3000 miles there would be no oil left in the engine. Who the hell would want a car that did that?

I use a qt to a qt and a half a year (the 06). If it don't smoke and don't leak, don't worry.

I wouldn't care to have my car using this much oil either. you wouldnt be out of oil at 3000 miles because your checking the oil every second fuel fill right?

I did that for the first year that I had the car. Oil level was always exactly the same so now I only check it about once a month. Still always at the full mark.

I am wondering if someone hooked up a crankcase vent line wrong or plugged a vent up. Pull a plug and see if the plug has burnt oil residue. You may not be burning enough oil to smoke, but the oil is going somewhere if its not on the ground.

^^^Most on the forum are just here to bench race and all without understanding of how internal combustion engine works!

Most can do more harm than good, maybe its true what you are wondering because these guys tries to be mechanics!

The last 5 GM products I have owned have never exhibited this behavior, all have been tight and leak-free. I have had my '08 at the track and have run it fairly hard, the installed catch-can would not pick up much oil and certainly not enough to register on the dipstick.
