Question on Trans Rebuild.......
The car has about 40,000 miles on it and many of them were 1/4 mile at a time....
I haven't had any problems w/the trans, but the new converter went South after only 10 runs... (I'm getting it replaced for $0)
I was wondering what a "fair" price would be for me to get the trans rebuilt? NOW while its out of the car....I do not need a "SUPER" stage 4 trans, my car is only making about 420 HP and runs 11.7 @ 117 mph
I'd want new Kevlar" clutches, and what ever else should be done, I don't think I need the $$$ expensive 1/2 shaft's etc. I just want it freshened up with better parts than the OEM...
I was quoted $850 by a very reputable transmission shop near where I live... I would bring them the trans, & have then rebuild it & I'd pick it up...
A 'normal' cost to rebuild that trans is about 2,500.
Personally, I wouldn't touch it until it fails. They probably won't warranty it on the track anyway, so pay later, when you have to.
I had a 4 speed refreshed after 4 years of serious abuse, it never failed until after it was refreshed.
Also, it will cost you a bit more, but if you send it to RPM, with your power level, I would bet it lasts forever.
He put in all TOP SHELF stuff (I saw the boxes where the Kevlar clutches were etc.. he showed me the used parts, and said I could have gotten another yr or two...
Thanks guys.. at least now I know I got a good deal !!
